Oak Hill Academy of Hamilton, Ontario
A classical Christian school in Hamilton, Ontario nurturing children in the wonder and wisdom of the Lord
The structures we create, not only serve practical purposes, but also influence our character and relationships.
“We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.” - Winston Churchill
Grade 4 students faced a tough Latin story about Phaethon. They knew the vocab & grammar well, but the translation was intentionally challenging to teach them about translation difficulties and storytelling choices.
One student took the initiative to rewrite the story at home. When she read her version to the class, they were spellbound, hanging off every word.
Children may not understand all that they are called upon to memorize when they learn Bible passages. But as we place God’s words in their hearts and minds, it shapes them, and is tucked away safely for later days when it will be understood better.

Artistic mastery requires a great deal of coached practice in the art. Evidence of success (in skill, technique, and appreciation of beauty) teaches the value of discipline.
We repaired this beautiful and worn out school building to be a place for God to repair our souls and our children’s souls.
Seeing and recreating beautiful art allows a student to appreciate someone else’s creative vision—to leave her personal view of the world and see someone else’s.
At Oak Hill Academy, we strive to nurture wonder, wisdom, and virtue in Christ, through a banquet of truth, goodness, and beauty.

Hebrews 12:1
Knowing that it takes a village, and that the school is but a part, we invite and encourage like-minded grandparents, pastors, churches, and the community at large to participate in the life of our school.
An atmosphere less institutional and more home, garden, studio, cathedral.
It is better to go deeper with fewer things, to own them, to make connections, to enjoy them. The goal is mastery, not finishing a textbook, and a restful, unanxious pace is key to competency, where we can cease to depend on the knowledge, skills, and confidence of another because we possess them ourselves.
The heartbeat of the classical tradition is forming virtue and flourishing culture through a participation in Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.
