🦷Partial dentures are important to maintaining your smile. When you lose a tooth, your other teeth shift around to fill in that space. This can cause the teeth immediately around the missing tooth to also become loose and can sometimes lead to those coming out as well. Having a partial to fill the space stops tooth crowding and makes it much easier to eat. Filing that space can help extend the life of your other teeth.

Avoid these 5 foods with your new dentures!

1. Popcorn: Popcorns are a popular snack, but it can be problematic if you have dentures. We all, at some point, had a popcorn kernel annoyingly stuck in our teeth. So if you are new to wearing dentures, this problem can be worse. If a kernel gets stuck underneath your dentures, it will cause extreme irritation until it is removed. Avoid snacking on popcorn immediately after getting dentures.

2. Nuts: These little guys have many health benefits and are a nutritious snacking option. However, if you have started to wear dentures, avoid eating them for the initial few months at least! Also, Tip! Denture wearers should use both sides of their mouths while chewing, this prevents the dentures from popping off and possible breaking. Since nuts are generally a hard snack and we typically eat them on the backside of the mouth, they can damage your teeth and dentures in the initial phase. Therefore, do not eat nuts if you recently got your dentures placed in your mouth.

3. Whole apples: Hard foods such as raw carrots and fresh whole apples take more pressure to bite into, and unfortunately the pressure from biting isn't evenly distributed in your mouth. This may cause dentures to dislodge, break or feel loose, which could be painful or cause sores.

4. Corn on the cob: Unfortunately people with dentures can only bite with one-third of the force as people with their natural teeth. This makes it difficult to enjoy the delicious corn-on-the cob. While your mouth is sore or healing make sure while you are getting use to your new dentures, pay attention to the eating process; Eat slowly and small bites causing less chewing, and less cornels under the denture.

5. Chewy Meats: Unfortunately, everyone's favorite Steak.. Unless you eat the soft, melt-in-mouth kind of steak (can be expensive), a decent steak tends to be chewy. With the extra chewing, combined with your new dentures, this can cause gum pain and sores. It could also damage the strength of the teeth in your dentures or even dislodge your teeth completely from your prosthetic, getting food under making it uncomfortable.

Meet Jessika!

Born and raised in Kelowna BC, Jessika decided she wanted an adventure. At the age of 19 she packed up, left home and moved to the Cayman Islands in 2010 and spent a wonderful 3 years being a "beach bum" and teaching scuba diving.

In 2014 she decided to leave the island life and come home, to go back to school to become a Medical Office Assistant. After Graduating in 2015 she got herself a administrative position at Kelowna General Hospital, working in the Emergency and front end. In 2017 she got offered a job in a very busy corneal specialist clinic, assisting with Lasik, Cataract and PRK patients.

After having her beautiful son Kaleb in 2020, she decided to leave the Okanagan and move to Kamloops with her little family. In January of 2021 she joined the Natural Smiles family and has fit right in.

You will find Jessika in the front taking phone calls, assisting patients and helping out in the back when needed. She has a great sense of humor and a playful nature. She is always smiling and laughing with us and the patients. She is the head of our social media making sure we are up to date and relevant to our patients and is a integral part of the team.

While not in the clinic you will find her with her family enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. She frequently makes her way back down to Kelowna to see her loved ones and enjoy the Okanagan for a weekend. She is passionate about photography, and in her spare time she works with families, couples and does the occasional wedding to capture their special day.

We are very happy she decided to join the Natural Smiles family and give a job in the dental industry a try and we look forward to having many more years with her!

Mouth pain is one of the most uncomfortable pain there is.. Specially when it is caused by a ill fitting denture.

Your dentures may feel fine when you first get them, but new dentures require an adjustment period and your mouth will change over a period of time, leading them to move, rub and even cause sores.
The next step given to you from your denturist will be rebasing your denture ( if it is in good enough shape to do so)
Rebasing is the process of replacing the entire acrylic denture base providing a stable denture without replacing the denture teeth. Which maybe required if your denture is old or is cracked to the point of no single repair can fix it.

Meet Laura!

After over a decade spent working in retail, Laura decided it was time for a change, She enrolled in the Dental Reception Course offered at Vancouver Community College in 2016 were she found her passion for all things dental. She graduated in 2017 and moved back to Kamloops with her husband where she joined the Natural Smiles family and has been here ever since.

Laura is our expert in all things insurance, You ask it, she knows it. She has been with us for the last 5 years and has become our personal office "mom" always making sure to come to the rescue of any in-office emergency.

Aside from being the clinic mom, she is a proud cat mom of 2 who works tirelessly to ensure she can keep them in the pampered lifestyle they have become accustomed to.

Laura is a movie buff, hocky fan and an avid reader, with fantasy being her number one choice. She loves to curl up on the couch with her fur babies and get into her imaginary world for a few hours. She loves music of all kinds, and you can often find her at concerts with her husband in the evenings and on weekends.

As a hocky fan Laura was happy when our clinic became a team sponsor to The Blazers in 2019, giving her the opportunity to see many games and support our home team with her husband who is also a huge hockey fan.

Laura is the first smiling face you see when you walk through our doors and one of the 2 friendly voices you hear on the other end of the phone. We are so happy to have her as a part of our little smile family and look forward to enjoying many more years with her.

Meet Lloyd!

Lloyd Perret was born and raised in the lower mainland of Vancouver BC, amongst a large family of 7 children. Lloyd started working at the young age of 12 years old, packing deliveries at a local restaurant his mom worked at. Lloyds dedication and hard work awarded him a job at Ando Dental Lab in 1980 where his dental journey began leading him to become a Registered Dental Technician in BC as of 1987.

Lloyd got married in 1987 and shortly after moved to Calgary AB, where he had the amazing experience to work for The Autumn group. They provided integrated marketing communications services for leading companies across North America, allowing him room to become a removable specialist that he does to this day.

Missing BC, Lloyd moved back to beautiful Peachland in 1999, where he and his new love raised his two kids, Adam and Taya. Loving the great outdoors, camping, fishing and hiking the Okanagan was a perfect choice for all 4 of them.

In 2018, Lloyd drove from Peachland to meet Robby for an interview where shortly thereafter moved to Kamloops with his partner in 2019 becoming a cherished, loved, hardworking member of the Natural Smiles Team, Daily he thrives for perfection and tells us that every smile he works on he thinks of it as "his moms smile", which helps him and the team provide fantastic beautiful smiles long into the future, thinking of our own loved ones.

We are so happy to have Lloyd apart of our little family and excited for him to continue sharing his tips and tricks of the trade with us as we all continue to grow.

Meet Amir Saboury!
RD, DD, DT Dentist (Iran)

Amir was born in Iran and started his dental journey graduating top of his class from dental school in 2002 at Tehran Dentistry School. After school he worked as a Dentist and a Child Orthodontic Specialist in Iran, Turkey and Germany. Amir then made his way over to Australia in 2008 to start work in the dental prothesis industry paving his way to start his denture career in Canada.

In 2016 Amir and his family of 4 moved to Canada to start his job as a supervisor in the removable prosthetic department at the All-Star Dental Lab in Vancouver ,BC. He stayed with that company for 3 years until he decided to venture into the denture field, starting his schooling in August 2017.

He joined the Natural Smiles team in May 2020 as a denture technician before finishing his schooling in Ontario 2021 and then transferring to BC as of 2022, where he finally became the knowledgeable denturist we all know and love, knowing the in's and out's of dental as well as denturism.

Amir is a family man and is passionate about his beautiful family, his wife Shirin, his two daughters, Asal and Anita. On his spare time he travels with his family back to the lower main land to visit friends and loved ones. He is a avid pianist and loves listening to music of his culture.

We look forward to what Amir has to offer the denture society and we are over the moon to have him apart of the smiles family!

Robby Jaroudi started his denture adventure back in 2009 when he started his schooling to become a denturist. He came to Kamloops to start his journey in 2012 working alongside Allen Goessman DD, another well known denturist in BC. In 2014, Robby bought the clinic, and Natural Smiles Denture Clinic was born.

His dedication, enthusiasm, passion and knowledge for the profession has impressed his patients and colleges, which has built positive life long business relationships and success in the field and outside. Due to his dedication and expertise Robby was voted to be president of the DABC, where he continues to shape the future for many denturists all around BC. He has recently received the Queens Platinum Jubilee Award for demonstrating exceptional leadership and who have shown a commitment to making the lives of their neighbors better.

He has also been leading his team to amazing accomplishments through the years, including this year's win of Best of Kamloops denturist and denture clinic for 2022, a finalist in the Kamloops business excellence awards for 2022 and many more along the way. He is well known for his positive attitude, professionalism and constantly striving for creative, beneficial, efficient ways to enhance and better patient care and treatment at the clinic.

Robby is a non stop, always on the go kind of man, so being passionate about traveling to far away lands to find some calmness before returning to the busy life of a business owner is a must. However, despite his busy lifestyle, he still makes time to spoil his beautiful daughter and wonderful family, spending any moment he can with them.

Robby is loved by all his staff and patients and continues to amazes us all with his dedication and passion to the craft.
