What a fantastic Grandparents and Grandpals’ Day event we had last week! It was incredible to see all of you there - all 220 of you! This was the largest Grandparents and Grandpals’ Day we have ever had, which was extra exciting as holding this treasured event is one of our most-loved traditions.

We witnessed so many special moments as we walked through the campus; it was lovely to see the joy on our students’ faces as they shared their school experience with you.

The Aberdeen Hall community is so enriched by your presence and support. We appreciate that you made time to be at our school for the morning, and it was truly our pleasure to showcase the talent and musical stylings of our Junior and Middle School students.

This 18-hole Texas Scramble tournament is being held at the Black Mountain Golf Club. Registration opens at 9:30am with a shotgun start at 11:00am.

**Early-Bird Pricing of $195 per golfer available until July 15, 2024**
** A limited number of discounted AH alumni spots are available at $150 per golfer until July 15, 2024

Middle School BuskerFest, a beloved tradition, showcased our Grade 7 and 8 Middle School Music Program students as they performed in small groups across campus. It’s amazing to see them develop teamwork, perseverance, and musical skills under the guidance of our dedicated Arts department. 🎤🎹

Watching our music students perform, student MCs introduce acts, and our improv club entertain between sets was a joy for everyone!

At Aberdeen Hall, we offer a diverse Arts program to nurture the passions of our students. From musical theory to stage performances, and learning instruments like violin, cello, guitar, and percussion, our Grades 6-8 students gain valuable skills that go beyond the classroom.

Our Grade 11/12 Outdoor Education class headed out to Pitt Lake for a 3-day, 2-night paddle for our final trip of the year.

Pitt Lake is a stunning local lake located north of Pitt Meadows. It’s also one of the world’s few tidal lakes and the second-largest lake in BC.

During this trip students practiced their voyageur canoe skills, conducted some basic first aid scenarios, discussed wilderness code of conduct, prepared their own meals, and explored tarp and rope use.

We were fortunate to see seals, black bears, deer, eagles, and ospreys.

Our international students are incredible. When they come to Canada they are leaving behind family, friends, language, culture, and virtually everything that is familiar to them and plunging head first into the unknown.

Our host families contribute to mentoring these students, by sharing our Canadian culture and community and helping to guide them through the process of acclimatizing to their new lives.

Last week provided some of our Middle School students with a tremendous opportunity to take their learning outdoors. A group of Grade 7s spent the day sailing on our incredible Okanagan Lake on Tuesday with instructors from the Kelowna Yacht Club, while Grade 8s spent the day collaborating and flexing their muscles as they learned to dragonboat. The Spring weather made for some incredible time on the water!

At Aberdeen Hall, we look for ways to provide a breadth of programming options for students to explore. Alongside the top notch academic experience our students receive in the classroom, our programs seek to leverage the incredible environment of the Okanagan Valley, and our outdoor education program is designed to provide students with unique experiences that help them develop resiliency, practice critical and creative thinking, and the collaboration and communication skills that will set them up for success. Whether our students are learning about mycology while hiking at Mabel Lake, scaling the rock walls of Skaha Bluffs Provincial Park, trying out snowshoeing in the alpine above Vernon, or spending the day on Okanagan Lake, our students are building skills for the future.

Events with Intent

On the eve of our gala event tomorrow we wanted to express our heartfelt gratitude to event sponsors, Priya and Jason Moothy, Aberdeen Hall parents and owners of Kelowna Infill Homes.

When Priya and Jason initially joined our community, they learned more about the Aberdeen Hall campus expansion to bring the Athletics and Wellness Centre to life and they were eager to support the next chapter of their daughter Yadanna’s new school.

Working with the Development and Community Relations team, the family came onboard to sponsor a portion of the school’s annual fundraising gala in May 2022 - it was such a positive experience that the following year they generously decided to become the gala’s presenting sponsor. We are delighted to have them return for a third time.

Sponsors are the backbone of our gala, helping to offset costs and ensure that funds raised directly benefit our students and campus projects. Thanks to sponsors like Priya and Jason, our gala events have raised over $1 million cumulatively, enriching the lives of our students and fueling our campus initiatives.

Our Middle School students had so much fun at their Winter Dance last week. Thanks to the Middle School Student Council for organizing and to all the teacher chaperones who came out to help make the event amazing.

Earlier this month our Board Chair Dr. Monica Penner, shared the wonderful news that we had achieved our official membership status from Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS).

This achievement is an important milestone in our continuous journey of educational excellence.

Accreditation by CAIS is a rigorous and comprehensive process that involves a detailed evaluation of our school’s programs, practices, and overall educational quality. It is not just a certificate; it is a symbol of our unwavering commitment to providing the best possible education for our students.

Over the past couple of years, we’ve worked diligently toward our goal of becoming a CAIS accredited school. In the last year and a half we completed two important components of the accreditation process. An in-depth Self Study, where we examined all aspects of our educational programming and school operations, and a Peer Review Visit, where we hosted educational leaders from across the country who closely reviewed and evaluated this report and provided both commendations and recommendations for improvement.

We were pleased to receive a lot of positive feedback and just as pleased to receive our recommendations for improvement. In response to these recommendations, Aberdeen Hall is now charged with creating a School Improvement Action Plan (SIAP), the next important step in the five-year accreditation cycle.

We would like to thank the entire CAIS community for your helpful support during this process as well as the members of our Peer Review Team who were all knowledgeable and articulate leaders in their field.

We would also like to acknowledge all of our faculty, staff, board members and school families past and present who engaged in this process. Your commitment and hard work have been essential in demonstrating our dedication to providing a top-quality education.
