Why Highland dance?? It's an energetic, athletic dance form to build friendships and confidence.
Just after the Canadian Championships these three girls came out and danced at the Fintry Fair. They danced their hearts out even with the 40 degrees out.
A few of our girls also competed at the Penticton Highland Games. Our girls danced their hearts out and came away with some prizes.
Kate M placed a 2nd and a 1st and Sierra placed a 3rd in the primary competition. Not only did they both have great results but they got to dance right next to each other on stage and not oh boy did they have a blast!
Maya also competed that day in the Premier age group and came away with a 5th. She was very happy with her results after a busy grad year.
What a week our girls had at the Canadian Championships last week in Kamloops. We had 6 girls go and compete on the biggest stage in front of a panel of 12 Judges from across the world. They performed with beauty and grace and came away with some fancy hardware.
We had a lot of firsts for our girls over the week.
Lily, Kate, Veronika and Kait L competed for the first time at Canadians.
We also had Veronika, and Maya competed in the Special Broadsword Competition for the first time as well.
Mikayla also got to compete with her dance friends from the Heather Jolley Highland Dancers in the Small Group Choreography for the first time.
While we had many first we also got to bring home some nice hardware. Overall the Highland Fire Dancers won a total of 29 medals over the 5 days of dancing.
Kait L placed a 2nd,4th,5th,6th,8th,9th over the two days she danced.
Kate M placed 6th over the two days she danced
Lily placed two 3rds,4th,8th,6th,9th over the two days she danced
Veronika placed a 5th,two 8ths,7th,10th and a 12th over the three days she danced. Veronika also won 5th with her group in the Broadsword.
Maya placed a 6th and two 7ths on the one day she danced
Mikayla placed three 4ths and a 5th over the two days she danced. Mikayla also won 5th with her group in the Broadsword event.
We couldn’t be more proud of the hard work and determination these girls put into preparing for such a big competition. The placing they received are proof of all the work they’ve done and we can’t wait to see them keep climbing to the top.
We also want to thank the organizers and volunteers for a well run, fun and organized event. This wouldn’t have been possible without you guys!

What a busy month of April our girls had.
Lily, Mikayla, Kait and Veronika all competed at the BC Highland Open at the beginning of this month. The girls all put new steps into dances and danced them beautifully.
We then had our yearly Dance exams. We are grateful for Lynne Hamilton coming all the way from Scotland to do our exams for us this year. We had a bunch of new little dancers do their first dance exams and some older dancers trying some harder steps.
While our dancers were doing their dances exams, Mikayla was down performing at the Virginia International Tattoo. The team performed in 8 shows over the week they were there.
And at the end of this month we had Maya go and compete at the Fraser Valley Open Championship. This was her first championship and we are proud of all the work she has put in.
Well Done to all the dancers on a successful April
