Pio Cesare Barbaresco 2016

From our Family-owned vineyards in Treiso (Il Bricco,San Stefanetto and Bongiovanni) and in San Rocco Seno d’Elvio (Rocche di Massalupo). This wine has been always and traditionally produced by our Family from grapes coming from different locations within Barbaresco appellation. This is the classic “formula” used by the ancient Barbaresco families to produce a wine which embraces and combines each of the unique characteristics of the different vineyards and terroirs of the Barbaresco area. Aged in large French oak “botti” for about 30 months; for a small amount in barriques as well. A very classical style Barbaresco: elegance and velvety, with ripe and spicy fruit. Strong tannins, but elegant. Good structure and concentration. Very long life. Barbaresco is a great wine it should not be described as a “basic” or “regular” Barbaresco, simply because it does not have any additional indication on the label.

What a fantastic colheita port! A lovely, rancio driven nose shows candied fruit and toasted nut nuances. On the palate the wine is very balanced: rich, just sweet enough, with lovely old wood notes and sufficient freshness to tie the wine together. This would be a real treat for after a meal or to serve with almond cookies in the afternoon.

A small scale, hand-made operation, Henricsson Vineyard produced only 300 cases total in 2015, and 500 in 2016. Using old and even ancient primarily Burgundian winemaking techniques, we thrive to produce wines that are bright, energetic and focused, with character and pedigree. Elegant and balanced, with a purity of fruit, and an acidic backbone with finesse and subtlety.....always using wild yeast for our fermentations, as well as absolute minimal sulphur, our passion is alive and thriving!
