We love sit spots!

Ours is under a BIG, old tree! Birds enjoy hunting for bugs in the bark, it’s covered in lichen and has great views of the surrounding woodland.

But what actually is a ‘sit spot’?

Very simply, a sit spot is your favorite, local place in nature that you can visit regularly to cultivate awareness of your natural surroundings. Expand your senses and pay attention to the natural ebb and flow of life.

Under our new name, and non-profit status, we look forward to connecting with more families, more backgrounds and expand our teaching!

As we grow, we realised that a change in structure was a great option for Walden to integrate more within our community.

To better engage with people, other non-profits and organisations we have become a non-profit society. And with a new structure comes a new name:

Walden Nature Connections Society.

Our goal to further outdoor education programmes, and projects, is still at the core of who we are and what we stand for.

We look forward to our new chapter and to sharing adventures!

English by birth, Josh has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Earth Science and has taught in outdoor education environments in four countries: Canada, UK, New Zealand and Iceland.

He has worked in special-needs education, forest schools and even strung Christmas lights as a seasonal job!

When Josh isn’t exploring on foot or by bike, you can find him with his binoculars slung around his neck searching the treelines for birds.

We love exploring and trying new things here at Walden!

Today was learning more about foraging for Huckleberries and other berries in the woods.

Here at Walden we were fortunate enough to join CPAWS Southern Alberta and others for a day of learning in the start of summer!

We joined up to learn about Spring Food and Bison in a workshop led by Api'soomaahka (Running Coyote).

Food tastings of berries and plants collected locally from the land as well as how they are traditionally used.

A perfect day in the sun with great people!

Walden Forest School has under taken its next adventure and moved back into the mountains - The Kootenay mountains!

All this fresh snow is great for animal !!
