Creating a world where no Canadian fears cancer.
Hello Kingston Relay for Life Participants,
On behalf of the Kingston Relay For Life Volunteer Committee and the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS), I am reaching out today to share an important update. We have unfortunately made the difficult decision to cancel this yearโs Relay For Life event in Kingston.
Please know that this decision was not made lightly, and that numerous factors including participant volume compared to previous years, many long-standing teams not returning, low revenue, and the rising costs of hosting the event, were all considered in making this decision.
We recognize that for many of you, Relay For Life in Kingston has become a large component of the fabric of the community. This event has given you the opportunity to support community members through their cancer diagnosis, to celebrate our survivors, and to honour those we have lost. Since 1999, Relay For Life has united a collective of Canadians who are a force-for-life in the face of cancer. Together we have supported the CCS mission to fund groundbreaking cancer research, to offer support services to help people better manage life with cancer, to shape health policy to prevent cancer and support those living with the disease, and to offer trusted cancer information for all Canadians.
We imagine this news may be difficult to hear and is certainly disappointing to share. At this time we'd like to remind you that all of your hard work and fundraising efforts are still just as important, and your online fundraising pages are still up and running! Relay for Life at its core is a mechanism for fundraising for the efforts and mission of the CCS to support Canadians in living longer and fuller lives. We encourage you to continue fundraising alongside your team, as all of the funds raised will continue to support our mission.
As you know, there are many Relay events taking place across the country. We'd like to formally invite you to drop-in and join a neighbouring Relay event this year. The closest ones to you are taking place in Ottawa (https://support.cancer.ca/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFL_NW_odd_?fr_id=29504&pg=entry) and Bay of Quinte (https://support.cancer.ca/site/TR/RelayForLife/RFL_NW_odd_?fr_id=29501&pg=entry). The Kingston Committee will be at Bay of Quinte's event and we would love to see you there!
We can't thank you enough for 24 amazing years of Relay For Life Kingston- what an incredible community you are!
All the best,
Your Kingston Relay for Life Committee & The Canadian Cancer Society

Though you are welcome to buy luminaries on-site using the QR code, you can save yourself the hassle of having to pay on your phone by buying your luminaries online ahead of time. Luminaries are so important to our events, so let's get selling!
