โYoga Philosophy: Yoga High
A common way to describe how you feel after yoga is to describe a relaxed, calm mind but energy and strength in our body. The ancient yoga philosophy of the gunas (the three natures) can help describe this feeling. The first one is Tamas. This is relatable to a blood sucking vampire. Vampires are dark, destructive creatures. They suck the life out of their victims. In the same way, Tamas is the life sucking force, leaving us tired, dark, and being destructive to our body and mind, putting us into a depression like state. Rajas is the opposite. Think of this as a dragon. Dragons live in the air, constantly flying from place to place. They are passionate and blow fire around the world. They are active and passionate, almost like an anxiety induced state. Our thoughts are racing, we are unable to settle down. Finally, we have Sattva. The perfect in-between state, the unicorn state. Our mind is calm, but we are still energetic, ready to get through our day. We are one with ourselves and everything around us. We are constructive without being destructive. This state is what a lot of people feel after yoga, the bliss state. Some might even argue that it is our goal in yoga. It is the state where we are challenged, pushing to our edge, and leaning in to the sharp edges without pushing past them. Our goal is to feel this unicorn nature after class, rather than overly tired or having our thoughts race. It is that โyoga highโ everyone loves.
Even though โhow do you feel after yogaโ is a loaded question, we can still attempt to answer it. However, you can only discover how you feel after yoga for yourself. I encourage everyone to try yoga and discover this question for yourself. Even with the vast and various answers to this question, one thing is always true, no one ever regrets going to yoga and it always makes their day 10 times better. โ

Join us for an immersive workshop including guided sound, movement and body painting. The event will start with an opening circle followed by a guided meditation, where weโll explore a theme for you to embody during the experience.
Youโll then be guided through a Sound Bath, experiencing the calming sounds of crystal singing bowls, vocals and other instruments, each played with the intention of activating your parasympathetic nervous system - rest & digest. Gentle breathing techniques to balance the mind & body will be offered. Youโll have the opportunity to deepen your vision for the body painting experience or simply absorb the healing sounds and energy.
Weโll open the body with some gentle movement before we learn body painting techniques and bring our visions to life by body painting in pairs.
Art heals and is vital to our well being. Through a guided visualization we will explore body painting and some techniques using colors and shapes to express our thoughts and feelings.Body paint when combined with intention holds a unique and profound power. The act of adorning the body with paint can serve as a fun, transformative and sacred practice.
Go home with your temple beautifully adorned for a fun night out, a photoshoot or simply to enjoy embodying the theme you chose.
Dress comfortably and arrive early to set up your space, and bring everything you need to create a warm cocoon and then experience the body painting:
Yoga mat
Blanket (2, one for under for extra padding and one for on top for extra coziness)
Eye bag if you have one
Socks and sweater to stay warm
Pillow/bolster for under the head and knees
Bring your journal if youโd like to capture your inspirations.
Wear black or old clothes in case the paint stains.
*Paint and brushes included.

This two hour practice is a perfect introduction to Animal Flow for people of all fitness levels. Led by regional leader, Garson Karrel, this class will guide you through the fundamentals of Animal Flow, and experience the unique the way it connects mind, body, and movement.
Youโll learn:
โwhat is animal flow?โ
the 4 Pillars (connection, performance, resilience, community)
the 6 components (wrist mobilizations, activations, form specific stretches, traveling forms, switches and transitions, flow)
how to create a flow
These movements, build strength, mobility and coordination - which are the building blocks for improved physical performance, and resilience. But the real magic of this session happens when we combine the individual components into a seamless flow. This is where the body continuously changes direction, tempo, and plane in a limitless interplay.
GARSON KARREL
Meet Garson Karrel, a Toronto-based fitness enthusiast whose journey from martial artist to personal trainer recently led him to become Torontoโs Animal Flow regional leader. In 2020, seeking to satisfy his passion for movement and martial arts, Garsonโs Animal Flow journey began. Since then, he studied closely with Canadian master instructors, Frรฉyja Spence, and Roshan Chopra, as well as global master instructor, Richard Scrivener, to deep in his understanding of the science and technique of Animal Flow. Most recently he studied with Mike Fitch โ creator of Animal Flow โ and the master instructor team during a mentorship in Costa Rica. Now, his mission is to share the magic of Animal Flow and the unique way it connects us to our body and mind.

This 2.5 hour workshop is designed to organize you in time and space to rise from the hibernation of winter with the clarity and vision you need to move into your potential with intention. We will talk about Katonah yoga theory www.katonahyoga.com, move through a well designed spring asana practice that has the characteristic of rising yang - of unfurling, sprouting & backbending. Dynamic breathwork woven into the practice will allow you to radiate voluminously into your potential.
Light refreshments and tea will be provided.

With more than twenty years of experience teaching, Kristie is well versed in many disciplines of the art and practice of yoga. She is very present and dedicated in providing a space where others can be fully themselves in their practice. Kristie brings her life experience from a place of authenticity to assist her students on their own journey and her attention to detail allows each student to strengthen their practice in a unique way.
Kristie is well studied in many areas including Katonah Yoga, Ayuverda, vinyassa, pre-natal yoga and cranial sacral therapy. Her teaching style is deeply influenced by Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga.
