I am certified to teach and administer exams for the Ontario Hunter Education Program.
Hey there, my buddy Tim sent me a cool pic from his tree cam. It's a sow and her three cubs, and they're looking pretty big! Ontario's got a healthy population of black bears, you know. We're talking about 85,000 to 105,000 of them in the province. And guess what? We've got almost half of all the black bears in Canada right here.
So, if you're out hunting deer, I'd recommend getting a bear tag just in case. But remember, once the humans start showing up, the bears tend to get scarce. They love apples, but they hate carrots and ginger.
Make sure you get your tag, and of course, practice safe hunting. Good luck out there! 🦌
Great start to an amazing weekend. Thanks to Jenn and Scott setting up to take me and my sons out Muskie fishing. Nice 36" Daniel. Want a great fishing guide service call Jenn! 🎣🐟

Imagine how much meat you could buy with $7400! Hunting violations only pay the court, and losing the ability to hunt would actually be the worst punishment for me!
In celebration of the Anterless DEER draw results in one week I thought I would super smoke some venison!
How can I tell whether the deer is a buck or doe if you don't see antlers?
A doe's head normally is more rounded on top between the ears and a buck's head is flattened by the base of the antler pedicles. Many old school hunters can spot a mature doe immediately by the classic “coke bottle” shape of the head. An adult doe will have a longer neck and snout.

Don't be a Turkey!!!
Spring season started April 25th and goes until May 31st. Bow or shotgun. Good luck and be safe.
Remember after being extirpated from the province, reintroduced turkeys have created a stable, huntable population in Ontario! Well managed today, the province boasts approximately 70,000 to 100,000 eastern wild turkeys, fall and spring hunting seasons, and a growing list of huntable populations.
You have a 1.2% chance on getting a tag. Good luck 👍

Yesterday I was driving south on hwy 49 and although this is not the actual photo, a turkey literally flew this close to my truck. I have never seen one flying across a road, especially when I have been driving.
Wild turkey season starts April 25th. 2 bearded turkeys are your limit, but not on the same day. Turkey hunting is a great sport for many reasons. I like the chess match of calling them into me. I also like the competition part of it. Mankind has been competing since the beginning of time and it’s a desire in everyone whether they think it is or isn’t. The competition makes me appreciate everything about the hunt. It makes me appreciate the animal, the land, the weather, and my own physical and mental abilities.
Enjoy your hunt and be safe! 🦃
Anterless deer draw is open and now goes to July 2nd! 🦌
Having penalties for not reporting about your hunt is one thing. Preventing hunters from hunting is excessive, especially when a lot of hunters are not tech savvy. I'm glad the MNRF are considering other options.
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/SCFutguZAtLfPkba/?mibextid=Nif5oz
The MNRF is reconsidering the penalties implemented on hunters who don’t submit their mandatory report.
For the 2024 season, hunters who fail to submit their mandatory report will still be able to purchase licenses, and only must pay a $25 fee. This update comes after the Ministry started a graduated penalty approach back in 2022, which saw hunters temporarily lose their ability to purchase licenses after missing two consecutive reports for a particular species.
While the OFAH understands the importance of hunter reports and the information it provides to ensure sustainable hunting, we also want to keep hunters hunting, which is why we will be discussing alternative approaches with the MNRF to maintain existing reporting rates.

Very big problem in Western Canada!
Extreme Canadian climate no match for destructive 'super pigs' - The Weather Network “If we don’t control it, it will get out of hand!”
A friend sent me a photo of a Wild Boar they shot in Florida. It is crazy to think this one wild animal does over 1 Billion $ of crop damage every year. I'm sure the MRRF will be looking to hunters to control this in the near future.
Cooper took the Hunter Education Course from me last year before hunting. His grandfather sat in with him. They were both successful in 2023. That doe and 10 pointer are amazing. Thanks for sharing!
My son brought over some ground bacon venison to smoke. After about 4 hours we took it off the grill and sliced it up thin. WOW...so good!
Can you notice this Buck's massive neck size! There are 2 lines of thoughts about why their necks swell;
1. Bucks begin to make rubs and scrapes, building muscle in their necks and causing a swollen look. These rubs and scrapes are also the bucks' calling card for does, as they lay a scent down from a scent gland located on their forehead and in the tarsal region of their hocks.
2. Their swollen necks could also be likely caused by “a huge surge in steroids (testosterone hormones) to the deer during rut.” That shot of steroids makes the neck muscles get big.
Either way, this big boy needs to come out to the "Buck Drop" zone during hunting hours soon!!! 😅🦌
I'm only shooting this Doe with my camera! The buck started wheezing about 30 yards away, but would not stick his head out!
Beautiful morning to be hunting. 🦌😊
Muzzleloader season can be a great way to extend your opportunity to hunt using a unique, historic style of firearm. I really hope to drop this big guy I've seen on my tree cam. Any advice on how to bring him out during hunting times? 😄

Enough of the practice. Time to get er' done! 🦌👍

Another 5☆ review by a student who mentions the importance of an Instructor led course over an online option. It's unfortunate that the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters and Ontario Natural Resources and Forestry support and promote an online course. Potential hunters need hands on practical skills, knowledge of the Hunting Regulations, introduction to training guns/archery, etc.
2 bucks spotted! One old and one young, traveling on the same trail.
Hunting is so much about family and friends coming together for a common goal. 🦌
Look who came knocking last night! Trick or Treat?
I found the information below very interesting because Wildlife Management by hunters has everything to do with the state of our environment!
The Pando forest in Utah is believed to be the largest, most dense organism ever found at nearly 13 million pounds. The clone spreads over 106 acres, consisting of over 40,000 individual trees.
But Pando has not been well in recent decades. “It’s dying,” said ecologist Paul Rogers, the director of the Western Aspen Alliance at Utah State University. “Mule deer frequent this area in such numbers that they are grazing on the young shoots and stopping them from getting established
We also need to look at things like more hunting, predation and whatever else can be done to keep deer populations at more sustainable levels to address the problem.
The picture shows how a section of fenced off area does so much better then the area open to the deer.
