Part of my June 21st celebration is to make art for myself and to share it with you!

I was thinking about the 7th Generation Principle (Haudenosaunee) when I created this piece. The way we act and the things we do and their profound influence on generations after us. This is something to help inspire us to treat ourselves, each other and the land with respect. We as Anishinaabe have the 7 grandfather teachings to help guide us towards living this good and balanced life. Mino-Bimaadiziwin!

I love exhibitions that encourage you to get up close and spend time with the work. Magnitude + Bond is one of those exhibitions. Interview with Donnique will be on the blog soon.

Posted • Deeply grounded, yet estranged. Deeply connected, yet rootless. Donnique Williams’ exhibition Magnitude + Bond reveals the power of words as they imbue layers of meaning between scraps of paper. And in turn, how the creative act reveals truths about oneself and one’s harvest. 

With each collage and poetry piece inextricably linked by the same name, what emerges are the striking, surreal dual expressions of a daughter fighting for her right to live authentically across identities. By combining the tactile creativity of hand cut collage and the enduring intimacy of poetry, the exhibition Magnitude + Bond expounds on the experiences of generational trauma and relentless self-examination. How both can be alienating, how both can be connected. 

We come to understand Donnique’s work as a devout warning, in the spirit of Gwendolyn Brooks: that we are each other’s harvest, we are each other’s business, we are each other’s magnitude and bond.

Yin Flow & Yoni Nidra Workshop

During this workshop, we will take time to honor our womb space (yonisthana) chakra, a powerful source of nurturance.
The yonithsana's energies bring much love and life into this world.

By directing loving awareness to this space, we find remediation, solace, and healing for our feminine selves.

We will use gentle rhythmic movement, breath visualization, seed mantras, and a special womb-focused yoga nidra to assist this process. 

This is an affinity space that is open to all women, transwomen, nonbinary femmes, or anyone else who identifies with having feminine energies - you are welcome whether or not the female anatomical parts are physically present or not.

All practices are trauma-informed and beginner-friendly, with plenty of period-friendly options.
