Our Wednesday is a little closer to home! Yesterday's sunshine saw Fields Trips as we Tipsy Toed through the Tulips with stops including a wine tasting at 13th Street Winery, an afternoon tea at The Watering Can Flower Market, and of course, tulip picking at TASC where Kate Fields took these great photos :)

From the Northwest corner of Europe, on the coast of Portugal, feels almost like we're looking at the northeast tip of North America, an island called Newfoundland...sound familiar, if you COME FROM AWAY, stay tuned ;)

It’s well known that cultures across the world feared eclipses. Many believed they were bad omens and astrologers could potentially lose their lives if they failed to predict one. For example, in numerous cultures, it was believed the Sun was being devoured, and witnesses would make loud noises to scare the attacker away.

Conversely, for Pagans, eclipses represent a favorable occasion to seek communion with their gods and goddesses and are perceived as symbolic of fresh beginnings, growth, and personal transformation. Meanwhile, for the Navajo, a total solar eclipse is a time of solemnity and respect, with many taking the opportunity to pray, tell stories, and teach traditions.

We’ll let you in on the news - Fields Trips is the first motor coach tour operator in Ontario (and 2nd in Canada) to become SUSTAINABLE TOURISM CERTIFIED In Feb 2024 we we’re advised that we achieved GOLD certification with and can proudly tout we are Sustainable Tourism Certified according to the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. Being sustainable sets the path for generations to come. We all need to “DO MORE GOOD” to make a positive impact in our travels and while at home.

This project promotes and maintains the function and diversity of ecosystems along Ontario’s Niagara escarpment. The Niagara escarpment stretches from Niagara Falls towards Tobermory and extends along Manitoulin Island. The NEFPC is a project of the Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy (EBC), which is Ontario's largest and Canada's second-largest land conservation agency, dedicated to preserving natural systems and whose mission is to maintain, enhance or restore areas of native species or natural habitat, and to encourage and support scientific research and educational services.

We’ve implemented changes on our tours and outfitted our staff with re-usable water jugs to eliminate single use water bottles, bamboo utensils in place of single use plastics, re-usable luggage tags and cork pens. We felt it worth mentioning that we vetted our entire mailing list and only keen travellers received our 2024 brochure that was printed on 30% Post Consumer Waste Recycled paper. Being sustainable sets the path for generations to come.

The next step in our journey for SUSTAINABLE TOURS was to commit to measuring and improving our sustainability performance in the following ways:

First step was in March 2023 when we took the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge and made the commitment to be more sustainable – and using motor coaches (one of the best modes of transportation) is certainly a step in the right direction. Our tours are always themed, and now we’ve added a further layer to include Planet Friendly visits so we can all feel better about the positive impact our travels are making on the destination. Being sustainable sets the path for generations to come.

This road is influenced by famed landscape architect Jens Jensen who designed what he called the Ideal Highway, a thoroughfare that would slow traffic, keep nature always in view, and include a separate pedestrian path.
