Lye ✨

Saponification is the chemical reaction that causes the fats and oils to become able to harden into soap.

Lye is the key ingredient that creates this reaction.

When mixed in water, lye becomes caustic and irritating to the skin until mixed with the correct amount of fats and oils. Once mixed, it becomes safe and non-irritating.

Soapmaking is an art and a science.
