In the 1980s, my father discovered the book The Four Minute Sell by Janet G. Elsea, a book that fundamentally reshaped his perspective on communication and the art of first impressions. My father forced me to read the book… 😂🙄
It helped me building my approach, my personality and personnal selling skills….
So Elsea’s book stresses that the first four minutes 🕐 of meeting someone can set the tone for the entire relationship, whether you’re trying to sell a product, pitch a service, or make a memorable personal connection.
Elsea provides specific techniques for establishing confidence, building trust, and conveying competence in those critical opening moments.
One illustrative case in the book follows a salesperson pitching a new product. While the product’s features were important, it was ultimately the salesperson’s confident demeanor and ability to create trust quickly that sealed the deal.
By applying Elsea’s methods, they effectively conveyed value, built rapport, and left a lasting, positive impression, leading to a successful outcome.

It was a pleasure to reconnect with Paul Crawford, President of King Marketing, today in Toronto.
We were both thrilled to see each other again.
King Marketing and RDTS were partners from 2002 to 2014, and during those 12 years, we lead the Canadian market, employing over 700 people every year coast to coast and creating exceptional synergies in the Canadian sales and merchandising industry.
With Paul, Roger Plante, Peter Hall, and myself, we were what I used to call the "Fab Four."
Those years were filled with hard work, travel, and great times together, both for business and pleasure.
Now, after an incredible 50-year career, Paul is stepping into retirement.
Congratulations, Paul, on a remarkable career, and best wishes for your retirement!
