🎭 Instructor Bio:
Justin A. Blum is Chair of the Drama Department at the University of Lethbridge, where he has taught dramaturgy, playwriting, and theatre history among other courses. His creative work as a translator, writer, dramaturg, and director has been seen at University and professional theatres throughout North America.

📝 Workshop Description:
In this short workshop, we’ll cover some basics of dramatic structure like conflict and dialogue and explore how to relate these to the sort of dynamic events and stage pictures that make audience members sit up and pay attention. At least one writing exercise will be included, so please bring a divide with a keyboard, notebook and pen/pencil, or whatever you need to do some spontaneous writing.

We are inviting you to the staged reading of Simon Always Loved to Dance, the first English translation of Simon a toujours aimé danser by q***r Québécois author Simon Boulerice. This solo performance explores Simon’s journey of self-discovery and self-love, recalling moments from his childhood that shaped him and taught him who he is. The presentation includes music and movement. It is poetic, joyful, and will appeal to an intergenerational audience.

This event is part of Gabrielle Houle's artistic residency at Casa, which focused on workshopping the new translation with a wonderful team of local artists. The team: Justin A. Blum (translator), Gabrielle Houle (director), Katharine Zaborsky (musician/sound designer), Jorge Sandoval (choreographer), Jordan Payne (actor), and Oakley Baikie (stage manager).
