Today, John Wick turns 10! Keanu Reeves is Wick, a legendary hit man who is reluctantly drawn back after retiring. An orphan raised as an assassin, earning top enforcer of the Russian Mafia AKA "Baba Yaga" ("the one you sent to kill the Boogeyman") under crime boss Viggo Tarasov, who deemed him so ruthless that others feared him.
Wick retired for five years after completing an "impossible task", allowing him to leave the business to marry and be left as a legend in the assassin world. After his wife dies, and the pup she gave him before her death is killed – Wick is back with a vengeance and wants retribution!
Assassins have strict code. The Continental chain is neutral ground for the underworld. Managers loyal to the High Table, pay for services and goods with gold coins, coins are also markers of honor-bound favors. Assassins are bound to rules, or risk excommunicado: No business can be conducted on Continental grounds and every marker must be honored.
During discussions for John Wick, Reeves contacted Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, who he met on The Matrix. After reading the script, they asked to join and presented as an urban legend, a realistic thriller assassin movie with an otherworldly setting.
John Wick has 3 sequels: Chapter 2 (2017), Chapter 3 (2019) and Chapter 4 (2023). Video games and comics were created, as well as other spin-offs, The Continental: From the World of John Wick (2023), and From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (2025).
Critics say it is one of the greatest franchises ever, earning over $1 billion worldwide! Many critics consider the first and Chapter 4 as two of the greatest action films ever made. Rotten Tomatoes scored the movies: John Wick 86%; Chapter 2 and 3 89%; Chapter 4 94%
The film is being re-released in theaters for its anniversary, showing November 3 & 6. How good to see you again, Mr. Wick.

On this day in Movie History, Zombieland: Double Tap turns 5!!! 10 years since the release of the original, this sequel came back with style!
Years after the zombie outbreak - Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita and Little Rock encounter new strains of zombies: "Homers" (slow and dumb), "Hawkings" (partial intelligence), "Ninjas" (silent and deadly) and the "T-800" (a strain which can only be killed by completely destroying the head).
Additional "rules" have been added - sunscreen, don't be afraid to ask for help, wet naps - just to name a few!
A few great cameos, and you have yourself a fun movie! During the press tour, the case and crew hinted at possible sequels every 10 years! We could only be so lucky as this ensemble is fantastic!!!
The film grossed $125 million worldwide, surpassing the original. Rotten Tomatoes holds an approval rating of 68%, with an average rating of 6.2/10. "Zombieland: Double Tap makes up for a lack of fresh brains with an enjoyable reunion that recaptures the spirit of the original and adds a few fun twists."
Come and grab Zombieland: Double Tap today!! This is my favorite zombie movie ever! Great script, cast / ensemble and lots of laughs!

On this Day in Movie History, Fight Club is 25!! Starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, and Helena Bonham Carter, Fight Club was ranked as one of the most controversial and talked-about films of the 1990s.
Norton plays the Narrator, who is not happy with his day-to-day job. On a flight from work, he meets a soap salesman, Tyler. After an explosion destroys the Narrator's apartment, he moves into Tyler's decrepit house. They become friends and start an underground fight club. Fight Club, Project Mayhem, Marla and so much more to unpack here… this movie has so many twists and turns!
Pitt and Norton prepared by taking lessons in boxing, taekwondo, grappling and soapmaking. Pitt voluntarily visited a dentist to have pieces of his front teeth chipped off so his character would not have perfect teeth. The pieces were restored after filming concluded.
When it premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, the film was fiercely debated by critics. A newspaper reported, "Many loved and hated it in equal measures." Some worried it would incite copycat behavior, such as that seen after A Clockwork Orange debuted in Britain nearly 30 years before. The Times reported, "It touched a nerve in the male psyche that was debated in newspapers across the world." Christopher Goodwin stated, "Fight Club is shaping up to be the most contentious mainstream Hollywood meditation on violence since A Clockwork Orange."
Rotten Tomatoes surveyed 185 critics and assessed 148 as positive and 37 as negative. The average rating was 7.4/10, with a score of 80% and summarized the critical consensus, "Solid acting, amazing direction and elaborate production design make Fight Club a wild ride."
"The first rule of fight club is you do not talk about fight club."
Fight Club later found success with its home release, establishing it as a cult classic and causing media to revisit the film. In 2009, on its 10th anniversary, The New York Times dubbed it the "defining cult movie of our time."

On this day in Movie History, Pulp Fiction turns 30! Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, it tells intertwining tales starring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Ving Rhames and Uma Thurman.
TriStar Pictures turned down the script as "too demented". Miramax Films was enthralled, and the film became the first that Miramax Films fully financed.
Winning the Palme d'Or at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, the film was a major success. Nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, winning Best Original Screenplay; Travolta, Jackson, and Thurman were nominated for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress respectively; Travolta’s career was reinvigorated.
Pulp Fiction is 7 sequences told out of chronological order and follows three interrelated stories with different protagonists: Vincent Vega, a hitman; Butch Coolidge, a prizefighter; and Jules Winnfield, Vincent's business partner.
With a cost of $18.5 million (Budget and marketing), Pulp Fiction grossed $107.93 million at the box office. Speculation about the contents of the precious briefcase "indicates the kind of cult status that Pulp Fiction achieved almost immediately."
Rotten Tomatoes, scored the film 92% with an average rating of 9.3/10. Roger Ebert called it "a comedy about blood, guts, violence, strange s*x, drugs, fixed fights, dead body disposal, leather freaks and a wristwatch that makes a dark journey down through the generations...”
Pulp Fiction was named Best Picture by the National Society of Film Critics, National Board of Review, Los Angeles Film Critics Association, Boston Society of Film Critics, Society of Texas Film Critics, Southeastern Film Critics Association and Kansas City Film Critics Circle. Tarantino was named Best Director by all seven of those organizations as well as by the New York Film Critics Circle and Chicago Film Critics Association.

On this day, in Movie History - The Texas Chain Saw Massacre turns 50!!!
An independent horror film, following a group who fall victim to a family of cannibals. Marketed as based on true events to attract a wider audience - Leatherface and minor story details were inspired by the crimes Ed Gein, but its plot is fictional.
It grossed over $30 million, selling over 16.5 million tickets in 1974. Credited as originating several elements common in the slasher genre - power tools as murder weapons, the killer as a masked figure, killing multiple victims. It led to a franchise with sequels, prequels, a remake, comic books and video games. For eight years after 1976, it was annually reissued to first-run theaters.
The film received a mixed reaction upon initial release:
- "Despicable"
- "As violent and gruesome and blood-soaked as the title promises"
- "Marilyn Burns, as Sally, deserves a special Academy Award for one of the most sustained and believable acting achievements in movie history."
- Patrick Taggart hailed it as the most important horror film since Night of the Living Dead
- Variety found the picture to be well-made, despite "heavy doses of gore".
- The featured house made the Bates motel "look positively pleasant by comparison".
- In a 1976 article "Fashions in Po*******hy", Stephen Koch found its sadistic violence to be extreme and unimaginative.
Rotten Tomatoes reports 83% of critics gave positive reviews, with an average score of 8.10/10. It is widely considered one of the greatest and most controversial horror films of all time. It was voted the scariest movie of all time in a list by Consequence of Sound and voted the best horror movie of all time in a list by Esquire. The film was inducted into the Horror Hall of Fame in 1990 and is part of the permanent collection of NYC’s Museum of Modern Art.
