It’s been a minute!

Life has been busy and full of wonder with our sweet Sophie girl but I needed to take a moment to pass along some BIG congratulations to our friends !

I am thrilled to announce that this past weekend won BEST SALON INTERIOR DESIGN at the 2024 Contessa Awards 😳. I am floored and so honoured to have played one small role in making what it is today. .madi and came to me with a beautiful vision for the environment they wanted to create for their team and for their guests and this space is a testament to that passion. I’m so thankful to them for placing their trust in me to help them make their vision a tangible reality.

This is what gets me excited about designing for small businesses! I love having the opportunity to translate strategic goals, vision and values into the built environment, ensuring that the floor plan speaks to your priorities, that each material choice conveys your values and reflects who you are! Design is a powerful tool and I love utilizing it to further your dreams!

Introducing the award winning Redwood residence!

This kitchen won Best Kitchen Renovation at the 2022 BILD Lethbridge Awards of Excellence in Housing last week and we are excited to share the results with you!

When the home owners came to us with the design to open up their kitchen into the front living room we new it would be a huge transformation. Removing the dividing wall and replacing it with a structural beam not only allows for a larger kitchen space, but it also showcases the existing mid-century modern wood ceiling. All new cabinetry and flooring modernize the space while harmonizing with the mid-century theme.

📣 Calling all lovers of beauty and self-care!

Who doesn't love a good salon? We all need one from time to time, whether it's for a fresh new 'do or regular hair maintenance, and the space you're in can really impact your experience. When the owners of Salon Olivine came to us with their vision we knew it was going to be something special!

Many details were carefully crafted during the design process including the concrete floor. It might seem like a minor detail to some, but this floor had to be:

✔️ durable enough to withstand hair-processing chemicals
✔️ varied in colour and texture to disguise bits of dripped hair dye
✔️ soft enough to blend seamlessly with the serene vibe

Creating a reading nook like this one with custom cabinetry, gallery lighting, and a showstopping fireplace treatment can really set the mood for rainy day self-care in even the smallest of spaces. Let's get your home set for the cool days ahead!

Salon Olivine

Let’s dig into the design shall we?

From the onset of the design process we knew we wanted to make a great first impression when clients walked through the door. However, given the characteristics of the site (two large expanses of glazing, one of which faces a busy thoroughfare) we also knew that many peoples’ first view of the space might take place as they were driving by, either during the day or at night. With this in mind we worked to ensure that the experience of the space from inside and from the street would be memorable.

The curved wall behind the welcome desk envelops the waiting area in a little hug while also keeping the stylist stations behind it feeling private. Floating in the space, it also feels dynamic when viewed from the street. As people drive by they are greeted by the curved wall and branding from the front and as they progress by the building their view transitions to scenes of the stylist stations beyond. The floating wall is also functional in the way that it allows stylists to approach reception and greet their guests from two sides.

The lighting in the space was also specifically chosen to create an impression during the day and at night, taking full advantage of the street view. The three pendants have an organic shape and an ethereal feel which speaks to our clients’ vision and the LED technology means they can be left of 24/7 using little power but creating a big impact at night. Recessed LED strip lighting in the floating retail shelves creates a beautiful soft glow and can also be left on to highlight product to passers-by.

Recognizing that natural light is one of the most powerful tools we can use in putting people at ease, walls were kept to 8’ within our 13’ ceiling space to allow the natural light to pe*****te into all guest spaces.
