The Clean Sweepers work 7 days a week to keep downtown Lethbridge sparkling! They work varying shifts from 6am to 1pm and help by picking up garbage, sweeping up leaves, and with snow removal of specific areas.
Every Clean Sweeper goes through an hour-long training session before they begin. Training includes how to properly pick up needles, lifting and bending, safety, and route training. π¦Ί
We are working extremely hard to remove graffiti from the downtown this summer!
Last year, we removed 90 graffiti tags throughout the entire year. As of July 15, 2023, we have removed over 180 tags to date.

Our Clean Sweep Program (CSP) assists other organizations in the Downtown and Lethbridge area by cleaning up messes (as seen in the picture) that have been left behind. A coordinated response starts with a call to the Safe Community Call Center or Lethbridge Police, who asses the scene. Then we come in and take away unclaimed debris.

It's almost that time of the year when you will see the Clean Sweep teams sweeping out the gutters where the city sweepers could not reach. Keep your eyes open and look for the high visibility vests. Let's keep our sweepers safe.
Did you know that we maintain the Festival Square ice rink? Every morning the crews inspect the surface and will resurface it with a resurfacing tool and shovel the ice as needed. βΈβοΈ

The Downtown Clean Sweep Program spends 2 hours a day cleaning and maintaining downtown. This includes everything from cleaning up litter and debris, clearing sidewalks and curbs, removing graffiti, and basic landscaping duties like watering flowerbeds. π·πΈπͺ£
You will find them out in the downtown core 7 days a week ensuring a clean, beautiful, and vibrant downtown for our community to enjoy!
The Clean Sweep Program helps with shoveling snow in the winter! Particularly they focus on areas such as parking kiosks, crosswalks, alleyway entries, and handicapped parking stalls. βοΈ
Business owners are responsible for clearing the sidewalks adjacent to their businesses.
The crews often complete their tasks before many people get to work. But on extra cold days, they take a snow day to protect members from cold-related injuries.
The Clean Sweep Program had its annual Christmas Party for the crew members this week planned by Manager Scott and Foreman Jett! This included dinner, snacks, and gifts!
The gifts were provided by a group of 15 local downtown businesses who wanted to give a token of their appreciation to the crews! Inside were gift cards, cookies, socks, and more. Thank you to everyone who contributed to helping give the CSP crew members a very merry Christmas gift π

Our CSP Program runs a few different programs including the Needle Debris Hotline!
If you find a needle or drug debris out in the community (not just in downtown), you can call the Needle Debris Hotline and one of our trained Forepersons will attend to the needle or debris and remove it. Remember to provide detailed information on where the debris is located.

The Downtown Clean Sweep Program is a low-barrier program! What does that mean? We try to minimize potential reasons why someone would not be able to join the program. We supply everything someone needs to do the work, no resume is required, there is no formal application process, and we provide all training.
Participants can also come and go as they need. They can return the next day, no questions asked. This aspect supports those needing to attend therapies or rehabilitation - participants are welcome to return at any time!
