Our Story
Candie Co. was established in January of 2008. Inspired by an art class where the teacher had Matt Gillin, the founder of Candie Co painting t-shirts; Matt and a friend made the first “Candie” t-shirt in his friend’s basement. The“Candie” concept is a result of a classic move: flip open the dictionary to a random page and point! After flipping open that dictionary and landing on “Candy,” Candie Co took inspiration and came up with a “busted up gumball machine” look for their first t-shirts. In the early days, this meant heading to the local Michael’s, stocking up on blank t-shirts and paints, and doing all the work by hand. As demand increased, Candie Co evolved to screen printing.
