Especially this time of year, Canadians are feeling the effects of burnout - and it is important for employers to recognize the signs.

Our team supports Bell Let’s Talk not just today, but every day.
We all have mental health.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines this as a state of well-being in which an individual:
-realized their own abilities
-can cope with the normal stresses of life
-can work productively
-is able to make a contribution to their community

How can employers help?
Understanding the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (the Standard) is a great place to start. Take inventory of the policies and procedures you already have in place and then create change from there.

World mental health report: Transforming mental health for all 10/07/2022

Monday, October 10th is both Thanksgiving in Canada and World Mental Health Day. We think the combination is a perfect opportunity to both practice gratitude and also rekindle efforts to protect and improve mental health.
“Make mental health & wellbeing for all a global priority” is the campaign slogan this year. As we reflect, we are thankful for our clients who enable us to be changemakers alongside their teams and allow us to be always striving for better. We are also grateful for the expertise of our providers and partners who collectively work towards making the health and wellness of Canadians a priority with us.
We will all be part of the evolution of mental health needs and awareness together, and for that we are thankful.

Find the World mental health report: Transforming mental health for all here: https://lnkd.in/egZNDWGs
Question: What key shifts (pg 254) in transforming mental health for all have you contributed to within your own organization?

Members of an employer-sponsored plan may also access a government- sponsored plan (such as Alberta Non-group) to help cover all their health needs. This is an important change regarding the insulin pump coverage with those government-sponsored plans in Alberta.

As part of our plan to improve diabetes care in Alberta, insulin pump benefits will be transferred from the Insulin Pump Therapy Program to government-sponsored health benefit plans on August 1.

The three-phase plan will provide enhanced care and improved access to technology for Albertans living with diabetes. It includes:
• Phase 1, implemented in August 2021, which provides expanded coverage for diabetes test strips and other diabetes supplies
• Phase 2, implemented in February 2022, which provides young Albertans with access to continuous glucose monitors
• Phase 3, coming in August 2022, which will provide access to newer, more technologically advanced insulin pumps

Canada's Mental Health Week starts today. While recognition of mental health is at the forefront given the past couple of challenging years, this is actually the Canadian Mental Health Association's 71st year for this initiative. The focus this year is on empathy.

Empathy is an important part of social behaviour. It helps us understand how others are feeling. We can then respond to other people appropriately and build healthy human connections.

Workshops & Events - People First HR Services 03/08/2022

From our colleagues at People First HR Services:
How does my unconscious bias show up in my workplace?

Because we are exposed to vast amounts of information and stimulus, our brains have developed shortcuts to help us filter and understand what we take in. At times, these unconscious processes cause us to interpret things not as they really are, but as we perceive them. This can influence our actions and affect others around us.

Looking to learn more? In our upcoming Unconscious Bias in the Workplace workshop participants will build a foundational awareness of bias and explore ways to identify and mitigate bias in the workplace.
