PSA: Mobile primary care clinics in Liverpool

Nova Scotia Health’s mobile primary care clinic has these upcoming clinic dates:

Queens General Hospital (Queens Family Health space)
175 School Street, Liverpool

Wednesday, March 27 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Tuesday, April 2 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, April 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

These are drop-in clinics. You will be asked the reason for your visit to ensure we are able to treat your concern. If we are able to help you, you will be screened for acute viral respiratory infection and given an approximate appointment time. Note: Please do not call Queens Family Health, as phones will not be answered during this time.
Have your health card and a list of your medications ready upon arrival. Care will be provided using a team approach, which includes nurse practitioners and family physicians.
This clinic is not a substitute for your primary care provider (doctor or nurse practitioner). If you have a primary care provider, we encourage you to call their office first to see if they have any same-day appointments available. However, there are times when you may not be able to see your primary care provider, or you do not have a primary care provider. Your patience is greatly appreciated as we aim to provide you the best possible care.
The clinic can only address non-urgent, low-acuity health issues and is not an emergency service. See a list of the types of concerns below if you are not sure where to go.
Types of concerns that may be addressed at the mobile primary care clinic include:
• Prescription refills or renewals (except for controlled substances)
• Minor respiratory symptoms
• Sore throat
• Earaches
• Fever
• Headache
• Rashes
• Minor gastrointestinal concerns (vomiting and diarrhea)
• Cough, flu, or cold symptoms
• Urinary tract infections
• Muscle pain
Lab and diagnostic imaging requisitions will not be part of this clinic.
Please note other options for care:
• Nova Scotians can now access VirtualCareNS, which provides free, temporary access to primary health care. Visit www.virtualcarens.ca to register or request a virtual visit. VirtualCareNS is not an emergency service.
• For general health advice and information call 811, which is a service offered 24/7 by experienced registered nurses.
• The provincial Mental Health and Addictions Crisis Line can also be reached 24/7 by calling 1-888-429-8167.
• Additional information and local resources are available through www.YourHealthNS.ca.
We will keep communities updated as future dates and additional community locations are determined or if there are changes to the current schedule. Additional information can be found at https://www.nshealth.ca/mobileprimarycareclinics.

Changes to masking requirements at Nova Scotia Health facilities.

As cases of COVID-19 increase in the community and in anticipation of circulation of influenza and other respiratory viruses in the coming weeks, Nova Scotia Health is making important changes to the protective measures currently in place.

Starting on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, medical masking will be required in the following settings:

-- Upon entry to Nova Scotia Health facilities and in common/public areas such as hallways, elevators, staircases, and cafeterias.
-- All clinical care areas where patients, clients, families and essential care partners/caregivers are present.
-- All inpatient and ambulatory care settings.

Masks will be available at all public entrances. There will not be any changes to support person restrictions at this time.

Reducing the risk of transmission of respiratory viruses is everyone’s responsibility. Nova Scotia Health thanks everyone for their cooperation in protecting our most vulnerable patients and each other.

09/12/2023

Please note FLU SHOTS will be available at our clinic after Thanksgiving. Please call after that date to book your appointment.

This week, we celebrate nurse practitioners and the invaluable contributions they make within the healthcare field and their communities.

NPs are highly skilled clinicians who treat and support patients’ physical and mental health while being exceptional educators, helping to prevent disease and managing overall patient care in all sectors – acute, long term and in our communities.

The Nova Scotia Nurses’ Union is proud to celebrate, work with and represent many Nurse Practitioners in the province.

🚨 Did you know virtual care is available for Nova Scotians without a family doctor?🚨

To participate, you must add your name to the Need a Family Practice Registry list by going online to https://needafamilypractice.nshealth.ca or by calling 811. This puts your name on the list for a provider when one is recruited to your community and lets Nova Scotia Health know how many people are without a family doctor in your area. Once you’re on the Need a Family Practice Registry, you are eligible to receive an invitation to join VirtualCareNS.

Nova Scotia Health contacts people by email to sign up for VirtualCareNS in chronological order. Those who have been on the registry the longest will be contacted first. It’s anticipated that all Nova Scotians will have access to VirtualCareNS by the end of August. For more info, visit www.virtualcarens.ca.
