Understanding the difference between Mammograms and Thermograms -
Mammograms image the structure of the breast and thermography images the physiology. For example, an x-ray of your heart will show how big it is and where it is in your chest, whereas an EKG will show the function of the heart. Thermography “shows” the function of the breasts and how healthy they are.
Mammograms are after the fact; they can only see what is already there. They can identify a mass, if it is large enough, but cannot distinguish the difference between a benign lump and a cancerous tumor. A tumor must be fed by blood vessels and that vascular formation starts many years before the tumor begins to grow. The vascular feed produces heat which can be seen with thermal imaging. This is an indication that either your body is preparing to produce a cancerous tumor or the mass that is present is most likely cancerous.
There is a large margin between healthy breasts and breast cancer and it’s helpful to know where you fall within that spectrum. There are many factors that can contribute to unhealthy breasts such as dense and fibrocystic breasts, calcifications, lymph congestion, inflammation, thyroid dysfunction, hormone imbalances and more. Thermography is a functional test that uses an infrared camera to detect heat patterns and blow flow in body tissues. It assesses blood flow patterns, inflammation and function using very sensitive equipment. It is a non invasive, non contact system of recording body temperature by measuring infrared radiation emitted by the body surface. It is a passive, pain free, fast and sensitive method.

I will be hosting a breast thermography clinic in Lloydminster on March 4th at Elemental Essence Therapy.

The procedure is both comfortable and safe using no radiation or compression.

By carefully examining changes in temperature and blood vessels of the breast, signs of breast abnormalities may be detected years before a more serious problem develops. Because of breast thermography’s extreme sensitivity, these temperature variations and vascular changes may be among the earliest signs of breast disease and/or pre-cancerous state of the breast.

Breast Thermography With no cure for breast cancer in sight, everyone agrees that early detection is crucial.

My name is Colette Dixon and I am a Clinical Thermography Technician (CTT) and extremely honored to offer thermography clinic services in the Lloydminster and surrounding areas. I received my training and certification under the guidance of Dr. Alexander Mostovoy, Board Certified Clinical Thermographer, as well as under the supervision and mentorship of Hazel Hnatko (CTM).

During my 12 years' experience working as a clinic manager alongside chiropractor, Dr. Thomas Hnatko, I gained valuable experience for holistic health, nutrition and have a passion to raise awareness about thermography and its application. I believe that having as much information as possible gives us valuable tools required to improve our health, while avoiding creating an environment that supports the growth of disease. Being a client of breast thermography myself for over 10 years, has given me first-hand experience that there are so many factors in our control that affect our breast health.

Thermography, also known as Digital Infrared Imaging, is a health analysis tool that produces infrared images, showing patterns of blood flow near the surface of the body which is used to help clients monitor their breast and complete-body health. Very different from anatomical or structural tests, such as mammography, MRI or ultrasound, these images indicate where heat and inflammation exist in the body. Inflammation may show up as an increase in heat release, and is a precursor to many diseases such as cancer, arthritis, heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Early detection of inflammation may help prevent negative health conditions from developing. Whether it’s a breast assessment, sports injury detection or dental health concerns, the infrared thermal images are evaluated for abnormalities and minor physiological changes. Annual thermograms allow you to monitor changes in the body’s heat patterns over time which can alert you to any changes that might indicate disease. Thermography offers early risk assessment with no contact, no radiation and no compression. With this non-invasive, pain free technology and the help of a healthcare practitioner, abnormalities can be detected up to 10 years prior to disease progression and can potentially be stopped while restoring health, without invasive testing and treatments. Ideally, patients can help prevent disease by being proactive with recommended lifestyle changes after their baseline scan.

Scan packages range from full body, breast, cranial/dental or a particular area of interest and are evaluated by board certified clinical thermographers at Thermography Clinic Inc. in Toronto, ON.
