Jan, and feb are notoriously hard for small business, but add in the financial climate and the actual climate it has been a doooosey!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We are sad to announce the sudden retirement of Elizee ‘Frenchy’ Hicks for medical reasons. It wasn’t an easy decision and Frenchy wouldn’t retire if he had the choice. He said he just couldn’t do it anymore and Mike agreed it was for the best.

Frenchy has been cutting hair for 58 years. The longest chapter in Frenchy’s life may be over, but he was very fortunate to be able to do a job that he really loved doing for so many years. Frenchy started his career in 1965 and has been laughing and carrying on with his customers ever since. He would listen to people’s problems and share some of his own, creating a wonderful connection with his clients. He loved talking with the guys and making them look good. But like he would always joke, “I’m a barber, not a miracle worker!”.

Mike is thankful for his dad helping to teach him the trade and for their shared memories. Frenchy was very supportive when Mike wanted to change locations and buy his own shop. Now that Frenchy is retiring, he offered his ‘spot’ and chair to his grandson, Matthew, but Mike said it was too soon. Mike has been cutting hair with his dad for 28 years. He has never cut hair without his dad by his side and knows he is irreplaceable.

Frenchy will miss coming to the shop, miss seeing everyone, and having their support. He is not alone in feeling bittersweet about his retirement but knows he is leaving his customers in good hands. We know we speak for his many customers when we say he will be deeply and forever missed at the shop.

As Matthew is inexperienced and in training, there will be an adjustment to shop hours for the next few months. The shop will be closed on Mondays until further notice.

We have a fresh face training at the shop! Meet Matthew, Mike’s son. Matt is new to the industry and he’s starting from scratch so Mike will be interrupting his haircuts to provide Matt with guidance. Your patience would be appreciated. ❤️ It’s been a hectic 1st week on many levels!

The shop is open. Elizee is cutting hair. Unfortunately Mike will not be available today to cut hair. You will see him and our new barber in training, our son Matt, in and out dealing with the damage to the building. Take care everyone!
