Celiac Canada has been assisting the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) on a product with a gluten-free claim made in the USA and also sold in Canada.

Product Name: Aussie Bites (with gluten-free claim)
Manufactured by Best Express Food, Inc. in Stockton, California.

The Gluten Intolerance Group as well as dietitian Tricia Thompson, RD from Gluten-Free Watchdog in the USA have tested the US product and results showed high levels of gluten.

GIG asked Celiac Canada representatives to purchase this product at a Canadian retailer and send for gluten testing in two USA labs. Results have confirmed the product is testing over the 20 ppm gluten threshold.

We have reported this to CFIA and requesting further gluten testing on the product and enforcement action.

Celiac Canada advises consumers with celiac disease not to consume this product.

We will be updating our community when we have further information.

Been quiet lately as we have family visiting from the UK, but we couldn’t resist getting my mum and mom in law the Mother’s Day boxes from soooo yum!! 🧁

Finally got a visit in to in Kitsilano whilst watching Deven run the marathon and the pastries did NOT disappoint - that melted chocolate goodness 🤤

One thing that's hard when shopping at as gluten free eater is the amount of food that contains gluten that you'd never have thought of. Or if you're a newly diagnosed celiac you have no idea where to start. Here's six to start with:

🚩 Worcestershire sauce (yes Canadian's that means cesars too)
🚩 BBQ chips (I cringe that I say chips because back home they're crisps)
🚩 Liquorice
🚩 Canned soup
