Your Florida Condo! That is the Question?

Today the Canada and U.S border closure was extended to November 21st for non essential travel.

US Tax consequences of selling or renting your Condo should not be the first consideration or impetus to sell or not to sell. I will walk you through the tax process whether you sell or rent your property.

Many Snowbirds have been deterred from traveling to the US because they can't drive down, and/or during Covid cannot get proper health insurance. Many Snowbirds are just in denial. Like many of us we do not want to admit we are getting older.

If you or parent has recently started having health issues, unexpected falls, fracturing bones or are starting to be forgetful perhaps its time to reconsider owning a US property.

If you or your parents income has decreased, have you added up the cost of carrying that Florida Condo? Typically the cost of just carrying the place for twelve months a year is between Twenty and Thirty thousand US dollars a year.

It is time for financial prudence and common sense to make the decision to sell. The money saved now can be used to more wisely in the future. If travel is still an option a residence can be rented.

The last thing your children want to deal with is selling your Florida condo when you are no longer capable of doing it yourself.
