Taking a mental break is essential for maintaining overall well-being and productivity. It allows individuals to recharge, reduce stress, and gain perspective, ultimately enhancing their ability to tackle challenges effectively when they return to tasks or responsibilities. Never feel guilt for giving yourself a break.
An introvert is someone who typically prefers solitary activities, feels drained by large social gathers, and recharges through alone time. Whereas, an extrovert is someone who generally enjoys socializing, gains energy from being around others, and tends to be outgoing and expressive in communication. Do you think you are more of an introvert, an extrovert, or a mix of both?
Daily mindfulness is the practice of being fully present in the moment, observing thoughts and sensations without judgement, as well as to foster inner peace and awareness. What is your favorite way to practice mindfulness and de-stress?
Secure attachment involves healthy, trusting relationships where individuals feel comfortable with intimacy and independence. They communicate openly and have positive self-esteem, fostering lasting connections. Insecure attachment, on the other hand, encompasses anxious/preoccupied and avoidant/dismissive styles. Anxious individuals fear abandonment, leading to clinginess, while avoidant individuals avoid intimacy, prioritizing independence. Have you ever wondered what attachment style you were? Whether you’re building a connection with a family member, friend, or partner, your attachment style can say a lot about you. Which attachment style are you?

Complementary care systems that combine conventional medicine with naturopathic medicine not only improve patient outcomes, but also create opportunities for healthcare professionals to leverage their network and peers – across practice and scope for innovation.
Canadians expect and deserve access to a full spectrum of primary healthcare services aimed not only at ensuring overall physical well-being but also mental health.
In support of our Executive Director and Director of Government Relations, Shawn O’Reilly shared our perspective on how naturopathic doctors can offer a collaborative approach to providing this much-needed care in a time of crisis for Canada’s healthcare system.

Are you afraid to check your cholesterol levels? Many patients are “afraid” that their cholesterol will be high and therefore postpone checking their blood cholesterol levels. That is not a good approach! What usually ends up happening is they continue to postpone checking their levels and may be at risk of heart disease.
Knowing your cholesterol numbers actually helps to EMPOWER YOU to make lifestyle changes. Once you’ve implemented these changes, measuring the cholesterol levels is a way to stay on track and see the progress your hard work has accomplished.
Naturopathic doctors are able to order blood tests for cholesterol, blood sugar, hormones and more. Want to know your numbers?
Call us at (905) 507-2016 to schedule an initial appointment.
Are you at a risk of developing prediabetes? Risk factors include: being overweight, age 45 or greater, having a first degree relative with type 2 diabetes, physical inactivity, pre-existing high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels, history of heart disease or stroke, a history of gestational diabetes (diabetes of pregnancy) and having PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).
Do you know your blood pressure readings? How often do you measure it? Having a blood pressure greater than 140/90 indicates hypertension. If you have other health issues, including heart disease and diabetes, the target range is even lower than the 140/90. Measure blood pressure often. This will help you see if external stressors affect it. Blood pressure levels may change at different times of the day.
Having a large waist circumference indicates an increased risk of developing metabolic syndrome. This means a waist circumference of 40 inches or greater in men and 35 inches or greater in women. When taking measurements, measure around your middle, approximately at the level of your belly button. Don’t compress the skin with the tape measure. It should rest snugly around your waist. Measure after you’ve just exhaled.
Happy Valentine’s Day! February is heart health month. Make it your priority to take care of your heart and health!
