Re**er engine breakdown is the first idea that comes to mind when the produce you deliver is spoiled in transit.

Although it is a common issue, especially for re**ers that are more than 7 years old, it’s not always the case.

Your next idea, then, might be to check seals and gaskets, oil and air filters or air vents and ducts, which also cause issues fairly often.

But when all of these ideas are crossed out, yet the solution is nowhere near in sight, you might get angry and frustrated. Why would the re**er you spend so much money on to maintain in perfect condition fail you so miserably out of the blue?

And, of course, the damage here is not just the emotional one. Repeating spoiled deliveries can seriously hurt your company’s reputation and lead to loss of customers and tons of negative reviews.

Surprisingly for many people, the problem might not be the functionality of your re**er but the way produce was loaded in it.

You see, a common mistake is to use the floor-stacking method because it saves space and is pretty convenient. The problem with this method is that it blocks crucial air circulation pathways, which leads to uneven temperature distribution and spoilage.

The only right way to do it is to use pallets. Pallets allow air to move freely, ensuring consistent cooling throughout the load.

You should also make sure there’s adequate air space between the top of the cargo and the ceiling and that your products aren’t loaded tight against the walls or doors to avoid short cycling.

Finally, don’t run the unit with open doors; it will pull heat in from outside.

These small steps can make a huge difference in maintaining the quality of your products and keeping your business reputation intact!

On a side note, the condition of your re**er fleet might not be as perfect as you think. Re**ers are notorious for causing headaches to their owners after 5-7 years of use.

The easy way to avoid these headaches is to keep your fleet up-to-date.

Of course, buying new re**ers and selling them after 5 years would be extremely stressful for your cash flow and can potentially cause big losses, as the market value of used re**ers fluctuates significantly year over year.
