🌨️ Winter Preparedness Reminder! 🚗
As winter takes its icy grip, it's crucial to ensure our vehicles are ready for the unexpected. Here's a checklist to keep you rolling through the season:
✔️ Keep your fuel tank full! If you become stuck on an expressway, you want to be sure you have plenty of fuel as you could be stuck for hours or days.
✔️ Check your tires, including the spare, for tire pressure, cuts or bulges, and tire wear. If you are unsure, speak to a mechanic.
✔️ Check the condition of your wiper blades. If you have streaks on the windshield, it may be time to replace the wiper blades or wiper arms. Make sure the spray dispenser is working well. Always carry an extra container of winter windshield washer fluid.
✔️ Test your vehicle lights: headlight, signal lights, car marker lights, brake lights and four-way flashers. Replace bulbs as required.
✔️ Make sure that both the front and rear defrosters are working properly and the inside windows are clean to ensure the best visibility. If the vehicle is equipped with side mirror defrosters, check that they are functional as well.
✔️ Review your winter safety kit to see if any items need to be replenished.
✔️ Inspect the condition of your ice scraper and snow brush. If the bristles are misshapen or plastic is broken, it may be time to purchase a new one.
Reminder: It is unsafe to drive with snow on your vehicle where it might become dislodged and block your view in front or behind. If snow does become dislodged and hits another vehicle, you are responsible for the incident, the same as if a tire were to come off the vehicle and hit another vehicle.
When following a snow-covered vehicle, stay well back in case the snow becomes dislodged. If the snow hits your vehicle, it could collapse the windshield or cause damage to the hood.
Winter driving demands caution. It takes longer to reach your destination. Give yourself extra time, take it slow, maintain space, and be a cooperative driver! ❄️🚙
Sometimes a swift reaction doesn't have a good outcome 🚗
🌨️ Winter Safety Alert! 🚗❄️ Don't let the cold catch you off guard! Having a winter safety kit will help you manage inclement weather and handle any road emergencies. Here's a checklist to ensure you're ready for anything:
🩹 First aid kit
🛌 Blanket
🌨️ Small snow shovel
🔦 Flashlight with extra batteries (consider a crank flashlight)
🔋 Battery booster pack/booster cables
🔧 Tool kit (screwdrivers, ratchet set, duct tape, garbage bags)
❄️ Lock de-icer
💡 Spare fuses/bulbs
🚨 Reflectors/hazard glow sticks/flares
⛽ Gas line antifreeze
🧤 Snow brush, ice scraper
🚗 Traction mats
🧤 Gloves/extra socks/hand and foot warmers/boots
🚿 Extra windshield washer fluid and windshield wiper blade
🧳 Rope or straps
🍽️ Non-perishable snacks and bottles of water
📱 Cell phone charging cable
🕯️ Candle in a can for heat and a lighter or matches (weatherproof)

Hey, road warriors! 🌨️ Canadian winters bring unpredictable twists to our roads. Are you ready to tackle the snowy challenges? Here are some tips to keep you cruising safely through the winter wonderland!
1️⃣ See and be seen: Drive with your full headlighting system on, and clear that snow off your ride for an unobstructed view. Illuminate the way!
2️⃣ Following and stopping distances: Slow down, make space! Increase your following distance from 3-4 seconds to 8-10 seconds in wet, icy, or snow-covered conditions. Stay cool, keep your distance!
3️⃣ Avoid sudden movements: Make those turns, stops, and starts gradually. No sudden moves, unless you're showing off your dance moves off the road. Smooth sailing is the key!
4️⃣ Winter tires: Grip it and rip it! Get those winter tires for better traction and a safer ride. Bonus: many insurers offer discounts for the extra safety boost. Win-win!
5️⃣ Plan ahead: Mother Nature can be tricky. If conditions get wild, consider staying put. If you must go out, stick to the main roads, check Ontario511 for updates, and let someone know your travel plans. Safety first, adventure second!
Remember, in winter, planning is your co-pilot. Leave extra travel time, create a buffer zone around your vehicle, and take it slow. Let's navigate these winter roads like pros! ❄️🚗
Hey road warriors! 🛣️ Ever wondered about the science behind bringing your ride to a screeching halt? 🤔
❄️ As winter rolls in, it's time to fine-tune our driving game and our total stopping distance. The distance it takes to go from full speed to a full stop isn't just about slamming on the brakes – There are several factors at play to consider.
📱 Distractions (on the phone, drinking, talking, etc.)
👀 Perception and reaction time (glare, windshield clear, etc.) and reaction time (footwear, injury, etc.)
🚗 Tires on your vehicle (type, condition, etc.)
🏎️ Speed the vehicle is travelling (faster speed equals more time to slow and stop.)
🏋️♂️ Weight of your vehicle (heavier the vehicle takes more time to slow down and stop.)
🛤️ Road conditions and characteristics (dry, snow, ice, wet, etc.)
🚦 Traffic conditions (rush hour, construction, etc.)
When you hit the road, consider this checklist! 🚦 A driver with savvy road manners adapts to conditions, juggles time margins, and navigates the unexpected with finesse. Remember your journey is as important as your destination.
🚨 Attention Ontario Drivers! 🚨 Recent changes in Section 148.1(1) mean we need to talk about passing snowplows. 🚗💨
🚦 Here's the lowdown: On highways with a speed limit of 80 km/h or more, with clearly marked lanes, you can't overtake a snowplow that's rolling with its buddies in echelon formation. Echelon means these snowplows are rolling in parallel rows, diagonally arranged. If the lane is completely clear of the snowplow – attachments, plow blade, and all – you may pass, but think twice and make sure the risk is worth it. 🚗
💰 If found guilty, breaking this rule could cost you anywhere from $150 to $1,000. 😱 So, let's play it safe! Staying behind a snowplow not only keeps you on the right side of the law but also gives you better traction on those freshly cleared roads. 🚧🌨️
Stay safe, stay smart, and let's navigate those winter roads responsibly! 🚗👍

Collisions pose a significant financial burden on organizations, affecting both on-the-job and off-the-job scenarios. The costs associated with these incidents extend beyond mere property damage, encompassing workplace disruption, liability concerns, healthcare expenses, and wage replacement.
A 2021 Driver Safety Report reveals that on-the-job highway collisions alone can cost employers $66,119 per million vehicle miles of travel, underscoring the substantial impact on corporate finances.
The real outlier in risky driving behaviours is distracted driving, contributing to a whopping 74% of collisions occurring during work-related driving. Understanding the financial implications for businesses is crucial.
On average, the costs associated with on-the-job vehicle collisions range from $16,500 without an injury to $500,000 with a fatality.
As businesses strive to optimize their operations and minimize unforeseen expenses, prioritizing road safety is paramount.
Implementing comprehensive driver safety programs, focusing on mitigating distracted driving, and promoting responsible behaviour behind the wheel is essential to safeguarding both employees and the organization's financial well-being.
Safe driving isn't just a personal responsibility; it's an integral part of corporate risk management. 🛣️🌐
Gasoline Fuel:
Gasoline creates the power for the engine to move the vehicle forward. Here are some important tips about gasoline and our vehicles:
· Drivers should consult their owner’s manual to see which fuel the auto manufacturer recommends for their specific vehicle (regular, premium or diesel).
· Choose a gas station that has a high turnover of fuel. Sometimes old fuel becomes contaminated with water causing engine sputtering.
· If this should happen to you the best way to manage it is to refuel often so the good gas mixes with the old gas. Another option is to drain your fuel tank and refuel.
· Usually having a quarter tank of gas provides a driver with one to two hours of driving time.
· Drivers should avoid going below a quarter tank of gas as the driving environment may change causing motorists to be stuck in traffic jams or a sudden snow event. Also, the lower fuel allows condensation to occur in the gas tank.
CPD has the experience and expertise to assist with proper driving techniques in these conditions.
As winter approaches, you'll want to prepare your vehicle for the challenging weather conditions that come with it. One of the most important aspects of winter vehicle maintenance is choosing the right tires.
The Importance of Winter Tires:
Winter tires are designed to tackle cold and snowy conditions. Unlike all-season tires, winter tires feature a different tread pattern to deal with the snow and rubber compound that remain flexible in temperatures below 7°C.
Key Features:
✔️ Deep Tread Patterns: Winter tires have deep and wide tread patterns with unique siping (small slits) that create more traction.
✔️ Softer Rubber Compound: Winter tires use a softer rubber compound that stays pliable in colder temperatures.
✔️ Specialized Designs: Some winter tires have additional features like metal studs or enhanced tread designs specifically crafted for extreme winter conditions (check local laws).
Benefits of winter tires:
✔️ Enhanced Traction: The primary advantage of winter tires is their superior traction on snow and ice, providing better control and handling in winter conditions.
✔️ Improved Safety: With increased traction, winter tires contribute to safer driving by reducing the risk of skidding or sliding on slippery surfaces.
✔️ Better Braking Performance: Winter tires can significantly enhance braking performance on icy or snowy roads, reducing stopping distances and improving overall safety.
When to Install Winter Tires:
Some insurance companies and provinces state a specific date when the winter tires have to be installed. Early installation ensures that your vehicle is well-equipped to handle the first snowfall and the challenges that come with it. Stay safe road warriors!

Whether it's a heated debate or a heart-to-heart, diving during an emotionally charged discussion can divert your attention away from the road, turning your car into a potential hazard. So, how can you safeguard your journey from the perils of distracted driving?
Prioritize safe driving by keeping conversations light and simple. Save emotional or complex discussions for when you are not behind the wheel. If an important conversation arises, consider pulling over to a safe location before continuing. It's important to know that the destination can wait, but the importance of arriving safely cannot be overstated. Let's make a commitment to safeguard our journeys, making each trip a secure and focused endeavour on the road of life.

Did you know? When pedestrians get the walk signal and your light is still red, it's not a glitch! 🚶♂️🚦
👉 At some intersections, there's an "Advanced Walk Signal for Pedestrians." This innovative feature lets pedestrians start crossing before vehicular traffic gets a green light.
🚗 Some motorists advance through the intersection when they see the walk symbol, thinking the light has also turned green. As a driver patience is key! Be extra cautious entering intersections especially when turning right. You might encounter pedestrians, cyclists, other motorists, or little ones crossing the street. Follow the rules of the road, and respect the delayed green light. It's all about creating a safer path for everyone! Let's share the road responsibly and keep our communities safe.
🎃🚗 Keep our little ghouls and goblins safe this Halloween season! 🚗🎃
Kids will be kids, and their world is filled with wonder and excitement. As we gear up for Halloween, let's remember that our young ones see things differently, especially when it comes to traffic and road safety. Here's how we can ensure a spooktacular and safe Halloween for them:
👀 Children have a narrower field of vision. They might not see the driver/car, even if the driver can see them.
🚦 Be cautious when driving past parked cars, as children may unexpectedly run out onto the road.
🏃♂️ Children are still learning to judge speed and distance, so they might dart onto the road without realizing how fast a vehicle is approaching.
👂 Children's hearing is still developing, so they may not respond quickly to a horn or know where it's coming from.
🚸 Be extra aware at crosswalks and crossovers, as children may not fully understand traffic patterns.
🏞️ If you spot children playing by the roadside, remember they'll be focused on their fun, not on the cars. Slow down and be prepared to brake if needed.
🏫 With children back in school, drivers must be extra vigilant. Children may not yet know all the rules of the road. Stay alert when driving near schools, playgrounds, recreation centers, subdivisions, and when meeting school buses.
The more aware we are, the safer our roads become for everyone, especially our little ones. Let's have a fa-boo-lous Halloween and keep our children safe! 🎃🚗👻

Hey there, road warriors! In the unfortunate event of a minor motor vehicle collision, here's a step-by-step guide on how to handle the situation:
1️⃣ Safety First: Make sure everyone involved is okay and out of harm's way. Safety is paramount! 🙏
2️⃣ Document the Scene: Today, technology is at our fingertips. Take clear, comprehensive photos of the collision scene, the damage to both vehicles, and the surrounding area. These images can serve as vital evidence should legal matters arise. 📸📷
3️⃣ Assess the Damage 💥: Carefully evaluate the extent of the damage. Does it exceed the $2000 threshold for combined damage? If so, remember, it's your responsibility to report the collision within 48 hours at a collision reporting center.
4️⃣ Navigate Responsibly: If the damage is below the $2000 mark, consider your options carefully. Communication is key. Engage in a respectful discussion with the other driver. It's important to comprehend the implications of insurance deductibles, often in the range of $1000. 🤝💼
Stay safe on the road, everyone! Let's navigate these unexpected bumps with a dash of responsibility and a sprinkle of cooperation. 🚦🤝
Unleash Your Inner Detective: Trailer Safety🕵️♂️🛤️
Imagine yourself as a detective, circling the scene. Inspect every nook and cranny of your trailer – a thorough investigation is key. Now, use this 8-step guide to start your examination.
🚦 Lights Under Scrutiny: Begin your probe by examining the trailer lights. Any cracked or broken lenses could lead to a dim journey.
🔍 Tire Tread Reconnaissance: Tire treads tell tales of wear and tear. Inspect closely, ensuring they're properly inflated and ready to roll.
🔗 Chain Clues Uncovered: Look out for any signs of damage, like flat spots or weakened links. When inspecting, check for two strong safety chains!
🔩 Hitch and Ball Inspection: Verify the hitch and trailer ball – they must be the right size and firmly attached.
🧲 Bonding: Trailer and Vehicle: Hook it up to the hitch, secure the electrical ties, and fasten every connection.
🚗 Functionality Trials: Start the engine, activate those headlights, and unleash the four-way flashers. Then, walk around your vehicle to ensure all headlights, running lights, turn signals, and brake lights are working properly.
🛑 Brake Investigation: Put them to the test – both the vehicles and the trailers, if your trailer has one! Car brakes in good working condition should have a foot pedal that feels firm throughout your trip and they shouldn’t feel spongy!
⚖️ Load Balancing Art: Load the trailer like a pro. Aim for balance and stability. Load around 55% towards the hitch end for a smooth sail.
Remember, for those seeking guidance and training on trailer attachment to various types of vehicles, the Canadian Pro Drivers offers both experience and expertise in this field. We provide proper training to ensure you're well-prepared for safe towing adventures. Follow this guide and make this summer’s adventures unforgettable for all the right reasons!🚐
