Have you noticed? In recent months, the City of Moncton has begun introducing a revised logo. The update includes a subtle refinement: the three waves in the visual mark have been adjusted to flow more seamlessly. The most noticeable change, and the primary reason for the update, is the adoption of a new typeface to better represent the municipality moving forward. Gotham Bold, a geometric sans-serif typeface, was chosen from a wide range of candidates to convey a sense of vitality, strength and modernity for the community. Thank you to the City of Moncton for its continued confidence over the past two decades.

La mise à jour comprend un raffinement subtil : les trois vagues de la marque visuelle ont été ajustées pour mieux s'harmoniser. Le changement le plus notable, et la raison principale de la mise à jour, est l'adoption d'une nouvelle police de caractères pour mieux représenter la municipalité à l'avenir. Gotham Bold, une police géométrique sans empattement, a été choisie parmi une large gamme de candidats pour transmettre un sentiment de vitalité, de force et de modernité pour la communauté. An exciting event for the Moncton area. The Festival International de Slam/Poésie en Acadie is around the corner. This client pretty much gave me carte blanche with the design of this year’s edition, which will circle around the concept of Metaverse. This is what I came up with.

Le client m’a pratiquement donné carte blanche sur ce projet-ci – voici le résultat. Le thème de cette année s’appuis sur concept de métavers, un sujet de l’heure.

L'un des projets municipaux les plus importants au Nouveau-Brunswick auquel j'ai participé au cours de ma carrière. L'année dernière, je fus mandaté pour créer une nouvelle identité visuelle pour la nouvelle Communauté régionale de Campbellton. Travailler avec les élus, le personnel et les membres de la communauté a été une expérience enrichissante dont je suis très reconnaissant. One of the most important New Brunswick municipal projects I've been involved with in my career. Last year, I was mandated to create a new visual identity for the new Campbellton Regional Community. Working with the elected officials, the staff and community members has been a rewarding experience to which I'm very grateful for. All profits goes to the Bikes4Ukraine initiative.
Since June 2022, this organisation based in Denmark has sent over 900 bicycles to over 35 cities and villages throughout Ukraine. They send them to their partner NGOs and local SOSUs and volunteers (approx. 90% women) use them to deliver food, water, medicine and humanitarian goods to the most vulnerable citizens in the most devastated areas of the country. The bikes make a difference every single day.

People are often surprised how much time goes into a well designed logo system. Here’s an example (beverage industry / brewer) of different components including variations on the logomark (symbol), the wordmark, a vertical (stacked) and horizontal versions. This allows the brand to be best represented on various supports, from wearables to packaging to social media avatars. A logo should be versatile enough to be clearly recognizable on a pencil or a billboard. Also, colour should always be secondary, it should have a memorable black and white version first, a solid foundation to work on.
