WALK, RUN OR RIDE A BIXI

🚲 If you have the opportunity to visit or live in the city of Montreal (Quebec), you will find that many people, especially in the summer, cycle to get around. If you pay attention to the bicycles on the road, you will most likely encounter Bixis. Bixis are part of everyday life here!

🚉 Montreal is known for its public transport, metro and bus, much like other major cities. But Bixi, with 800 stations across the city or more than 10,000 bikes, has made commuting even more convenient for Montrealers. It also encourages an active lifestyle to keep city dwellers fit and healthy.

📱 Bixi is easy to use. All you need is a mobile phone to download the app. You then go to the nearest Bixi station, and the app will send us a code to unlock the selected bike. The Bixi app is linked to Google Map and suggests a bike-friendly route to safely arrive to your destination.

🚸 When cycling in Montreal, you will find that many streets have a dedicated bike lane, and most roads have the image of a bicycle in the middle of the lane. The aim is to create a safe environment where cyclists and motorists can efficiently share the road.

💲 The service is also affordable. As a one-time customer, each ride starts at $1 Canadian and adds 15 cents per minute. You can also subscribe for as little as $18 a month, which allows you to use it for 45 minutes a day, as many times as you like. Go beyond that, you only pay 10 cents per minute.

👍 Bixis are for everyone: for those who like convenience, who don't want to carry their bike everywhere, or who have limited space in their home. The bicycles are clean, ready to use, and regularly checked and maintained. Only one precaution needs to be taken; when returning the bike, make sure it is properly locked. Otherwise, time will be added indefinitely to you bill. After parking the bike, you can check in the app to make sure that it has been returned.

🍃 From spring to fall, come visit Montreal and try a Bixi! You'll see the city from a new angle in an environmentally friendly way!

🇨🇦 NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR 🇨🇦

The province is composed of two parts: Newfoundland, an island in the Atlantic Ocean and the easternmost part of Canada, as well as Labrador, which is part of mainland Canada, northeast of Quebec. It is the largest province in Atlantic Canada, covering 405,720 square kilometers and is home to 510,550 Newfoundlanders, 40% of whom reside in St. John's, the province's capital and largest city.

Summers in Newfoundland average 16 degrees Celsius, while winters remain around 0 degrees Celsius. Labrador enjoys milder summers that can reach 25 degrees Celsius, but experiences harsher winters with temperatures below -15 degrees Celsius. Because of its maritime climate, the island experiences variable weather, more moisture, frequent cloudiness, heavier precipitation and stronger winds than continental Labrador.

For centuries, the fishing industry was the main source of economic activity in the province. Today, Newfoundland and Labrador has diversified its economy by harnessing other natural resources, such as mineral extraction, oil exploration and hydroelectric developments. Although the primary sector is vital to its economy, most people are employed in the service industry. Tourism is also a major driver of economic growth, generating approximately $1 billion annually for the province.

In 1949, Newfoundland and Labrador became the tenth and final province to join the Canadian Confederation. Much of its history has been spent isolated from outside influence. Most communities have even retained their original dialects, unchanged since the arrival of Irish, English and French settlers over 400 years ago. The cultural heritage and the maritime way of life are expressed through the distinctive food, music, crafts and traditions of the people. Come get screech-in to become an honorary Newfoundlander!

Canada also has bubble tea 🇨🇦

🧋 🍁Bubble tea has quickly become one of the most popular specialty drinks in Canada, and for a growing number of the population, going out for bubble tea is as mainstream as going out for ice cream.

How did this happen? The rise of foodie culture and the desire to have multicultural experiences, as well as new and innovative ways for brands to market to their customers, has elevated bubble tea in much the same way sushi, a once obscure ethnic food, is now a mainstay beloved by people of all backgrounds.

🧋 A glass of bubble tea costs an average of 8 - 10CAD, while the minimum wage in Ontario, with a big city like Toronto, is 15CAD / hour.

“Going out for coffee wasn’t as popular until Starbucks and Tim Hortons brought coffee to every major intersection in every city,” says Thomas Wong, Chief Development Officer of Chatime. “Bubble tea is having a similar moment right now and we can see that by the increase in our customers, by our increase in cup sales, and by how well our franchise owners are doing in their businesses. This is a very exciting time to be in the bubble tea business because this is only the beginning.”

In Toronto, the demand for Bubble Tea became so strong that NOW Toronto published a piece entitled, “Why Are So Many New Bubble Tea Shops Opening in Toronto?”

“No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you: bubble tea shops have been multiplying at a breakneck pace across Canada in recent months — sometimes seemingly on the spot.”

🇨🇦 Teachers in Canada 🇨🇦

📍 Many countries, including Canada, celebrate their Teachers' Day on 5 October in conjunction with World Teachers' Day, which was established by UNESCO in 1994.

👤 The theme for Teacher's day 2021 as set by the Canadian Teachers’ Federation is Celebrating Teachers – we see you, value you, and applaud you.

🇨🇦 The Government of Canada has taken concrete steps to help teachers during these challenging times. Last year, Canada announced an investment of up to $2 billion through the Safe Return to Class Fund for provinces and territories. This funding has helped schools adapt learning spaces, improve air ventilation, increase hand sanitation, purchase personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies, and provide health and safety training for staff.
⭐️ Teaching is one of the most in-demand jobs in Canada but finding the best place to find work is crucial when it comes to the immigration process. Although teachers are in need in almost every province in Canada, the level and types of teaching jobs vary from province to province.

Teachers are treated well nationally and can not only expect to earn very attractive salaries but great work benefits too. Most teachers in Canada, according to Payscale, earn an average salary of $68,321 per year but can earn up to $96,000 depending on work experience, qualification, and level of your profession. You could also look forward to fantastic benefits such as employment insurance, sick and compassionate leave as well as paid parental leave, among others when you choose to teach in Canada.

🇨🇦 Become a Global Citizen 🇨🇦
👤 What is global citizenship?
While it may mean different things to different people, the most common global citizenship definition is the idea that all people have civic responsibilities to the world as a whole, rather than just their local communities or countries. So, by expanding one’s personal horizons through global learning, you are able to effect change in a more meaningful sense on both a small and larger scale.

👤Why is Global Citizenship Education needed?
With the interconnected and interdependent nature of our world, the global is not ‘out there’; it is part of our everyday lives, as we are linked to others on every continent:

-socially and culturally through the media and telecommunications, and through travel and migration

-economically through trade

-environmentally through sharing one planet

-politically through international relations and systems of regulation.

The opportunities our fast-changing ‘globalised’ world offers young people are enormous. But so too are the challenges. Young people are entitled to an education that equips them with the knowledge, skills and values they need in order to embrace the opportunities and challenges they encounter, and to create the kind of world that they want to live in. An education that supports their development as Global Citizens.

➡️The 2021 Best Countries rankings, formed in partnership with BAV Group, a unit of global marketing communications company VMLY&R, and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, are based on a study that surveyed more than 17,000 people from four regions to assess perceptions of 78 countries on 76 different metrics. The Social Purpose subranking score had a 12.23% weight in the overall Best Countries ranking.

⭐️ Canada, the overall No. 1 Best Country, inaugurates this subranking by being seen globally as the No. 1 country with Social Purpose.

🇨🇦 Let's Celebrate Children's Day Canadian Style 🇨🇦
📍 About National Child Day
Canada has declared November 20th as National Child Day to celebrate the rights of children. November 20th was chosen as the day to celebrate National Child Day because the United Nations adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) on November 20, 1989.

By signing onto the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1991, Canada made a commitment to ensure that all children are treated with dignity and respect and have every opportunity to reach their full potential. This commitment includes:

- Providing children opportunities to have a voice (speak out and be heard)
- Protecting children from harm
- Ensuring children's basic needs are met

⭐️How to celebrate National Child Day⭐️
Celebrating National Child Day is about celebrating children as:

- active participants in their own lives and in their communities
- active citizens who can and should meaningfully contribute to decisions that affect their lives

National Child Day is an excellent opportunity for educators, parents and caregivers to teach children about their rights. Here are some ideas on how to celebrate:

- Organize a learning activity for a group of children or teenagers using the child rights activity guide. Our activity selector tool can help you quickly choose an activity from the guide.
- Print a copy of our National Child Day colouring poster.
- Check out our information posters section to learn more about National Child Day and the UNCRC.
- Explore other resources for educators, parents and caregivers, children and teenagers.

🇨🇦 Let's go get some fresh air in Canada 🇨🇦
👤 The air we breathe directly affects our health. Especially in children who are the age when the brain is growing and in school age. Air pollution such as PM 2.5 will interfere with the learning process of children. This causes children to have shorter attention spans, shorter memory, and worse brain development and new learning.

👤 Air pollution is a big problem both internationally and nationally. Each country has different approaches to dealing with and preventing air pollution at different concentrations. For a country like Canada, both past and present governments have strong and clear policies to provide good air quality for the people of the country.

⭐️ Canada’s air quality has improved significantly over the last several decades as our air pollutant emissions continue to decline. Our air is consistently ranked among the cleanest in the world, according to the World Health Organization. This is largely due to federal, provincial and territorial governments working together to reduce air pollution from vehicles, power plants, and industries across the country.

🇨🇦 The Canadian government isn't just about improving air quality. But it also launched a variety of practical measures, such as cutting taxes for businesses trying to reduce air pollution, funding to build electric and hydrogen filling stations in place of gas stations, and supporting projects to reduce air pollution. Through the Low Carbon Economy Fund, more than 255 daily air quality measurement points have been established in 200 communities across Canada through the National Air Pollution Surveillance program, and wildfire smoke forecasting systems have been developed.

🇨🇦 Canada Welcoming You! 🇨🇦

🇨🇦 Canada is well known for being one of the countries that welcomes immigrants and has the highest number of immigrants in the world.
➡️ Between 1 July 2020 - 30 June 2021, a total of 225,203 immigrants arrived in Canada.

➡️ The Canadian Statistical Agency has conducted a lot of surveys, so let's take a look at some statistics.
👤 Age of immigrants
The numbers are collected between 1 July 2019 - 30 June 2020. The numbers for each age range are as follows.
1-4 years 18,506
5 - 9 years 18,428
10 - 14 years 13,821
15 - 19 years 10,773
20 - 24 years 23,070
25 - 29 years 63,717
30 - 34 years 54,665
35 - 39 years 31,524
40 - 44 years 16,328
45 - 49 years 9,626
50 - 54 years 5,421
55 - 59 years 4,777
60 - 64 years 4,808
65 - 69 years 4,024
70 - 74 years 2,497
75 - 79 years 1,297
80 - 84 years 547

👤Where are popular destinations for these immigrants ?
The 2020 survey found that Ontario ranked first with 127,191 settlers, followed by British Columbia with 44,899, followed by Alberta, Quebec and Manitoba, respectively.

👤 Most immigrants choose to go to Toronto in Ontario, although the cost of living is relatively high due to the fact that it's a big city. However, there are many job opportunities and the public transport is well developed in Ontario. There are also leading universities and colleges in the city.

👤 Where did the Canadian settlers come from?
From the latest figures collected between January and April 2021, the top three countries are from Asia, the first place is India, accounting for 24% of immigrants during that period, followed by China and the Philippines.

👤 The reason why Indians are number 1 is because of their fluency in English. Many of them graduated from an accredited institution and most of them have experience working with foreigners. Therefore they have the courage to come out and seek opportunities in a foreign country.

🇨🇦The Best Countries to Raise Kids🇨🇦
Some citizens of countries are willing to pay high rates of taxes if health care, education and other needs are taken care of. In his piece “Why Danes Happily Pay High Rates of Taxes,” Meik Wiking, CEO of the Happiness Research Institute, says people in that country see paying taxes as a quality-of-life investment. Critically, Wiking says, their government is able to deliver on that promise.

The 2021 Best Countries for Raising Kids ranking draws from a global perceptions-based survey and ranks countries based on scores from a compilation of eight country attributes: caring about human rights, being considered family friendly, its environment for gender equality, being seen as happy, having income equality, being safe, and having well-developed public education and well-developed health care systems.

1. Denmark
2. Sweden
3. Norway
4. Netherlands
5. Canada

No. 5: Canada
Canada, the overall No. 1 Best Country, moved down one position in this ranking from 2020. In this country, employees covered by the Canada Labour Code are entitled to up to 17 weeks of maternity leave. If both parents care for a newborn or newly adopted child they are entitled to a combined period of parental leave of no more than 63 weeks. Parents are eligible for employment insurance if they meet certain requirements.

🇨🇦 MANITOBA 🇨🇦

The province of Manitoba is located in the heart of Canada. Its central location connects the east and west coasts of the country through extensive trade and transportation. Manitoba is bordered by Saskatchewan on the West, bustling Ontario in the East, and the newest Canadian territory, Nunavut, to the North. The province is also located on the historical Hudson Bay, where the influential Hudson’s Bay Trading Company was originally founded in 1670.

Manitoba encompasses several types of terrains: Prairie grasslands and valleys in the south, boreal forests across the Canadian Shield, and Arctic tundra in the North. Manitoba is called “The Land of 100,000 Lakes,” and that is no exaggeration; lakes make up one-sixth of the province’s entire land area.

The climate of Manitoba is defined by four distinct seasons; the province experiences cold, dry winters, hot summers, and cool springs and falls. Southern Manitoba experiences a longer growing season than other provinces due to more hours of sunshine and frost-free days, giving the province a large and bountiful agriculture industry.

➡Manitoba’s economic strengths and growing sectors
Manitoba‘s unique economic advantages allow the province to build up a stable economy across many different industries. The province cites these six strengths that make Manitoba economically robust and welcoming to new businesses:

- A diverse and well-educated workforce
- Central location in North America
- Abundant natural resources
- A diverse industrial makeup
- Low business costs
- A high quality of life

Manitoba’s capital of Winnipeg is a main economic centre for all of Canada, as trade and transport run through this centrally-located city.

Manitoba’s diverse industrial makeup makes the provincial economy stable and adaptable; by relying on many different successful industries, the province is not tied to the success of any one industry. Manitoba’s most important and successful growing economic industries include:

1. Advanced manufacturing
2. Aerospace
3. Agribusiness
4. Creative industries
5. Education
6. Energy and environment
7. Financial services
8. Furniture and building products
9. Information and communication technologies
10. Life sciences and biotechnology
11. Mining and minerals
12. Tourism
13. Transportation and distribution
