*IMPORTANT INFO ON BILL 96*
Bill 96 is a proposed reform of the Charter of the French Language (commonly known as Bill 101) that aims to further promote the French Language and respond to growing concern among Francophones that French is on the decline in Quebec. If passed, it will take effect in 2024-2025. 📃
➡️What does this imply for us?
1. Limits the enrolment in anglophone colleges to the registered number in 2019
2. Requires that all allophone and francophone students pass the French Exit Exam
3. Impose 3 French classes for all students in anglophone colleges
4. Systemically disadvantage students who are already marginalized, including Indigenous students and those with learning barriers
The bill will also affect public signage, prohibit the requirement of bilingual judges, remove the bilingual status of municipalities, and more.
⚠️The Marianopolis Student Union is hosting a Town Hall with the Director General this Thursday, May 5th to discuss the effects of the Bill and to mobilize student voices.📣
Join us in the West Courtyard during Activity Period!
