Introducing our Women in Technology Panel Speakers
Audrey Sedal:
Audrey Sedal is a mechanical engineering research assistant Professor at McGill University. She completed a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Master's and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Sedal's research focuses on robotics, soft robotics, experimental mechanics, design optimization, and machine learning for robotics. Soft robots, constructed from pliable and compliant materials, have potential applications in diverse industries, promising both safety and adaptability. Dr. Sedal's work bridges the gap between robotics, solid mechanics, optimization, and machine learning. She combines experimental and theoretical methods to investigate and develop continuous robotic systems that are compliant and adaptable. Her projects include the development of biodegradable, eco-friendly materials for soft robots and the creation of computational models to predict the behaviour of robots made from materials with different "clocks." These models enable safer and more efficient interactions between soft robots and their environment.

Introducing our Women in Technology Panel Speakers
Mariam Jabara
Mariam is in her final semester of her Master’s at McGill University, studying the applications of machine learning in the early detection of type 2 diabetes. Prior to this, she studied Biomedical Science with a minor in Computer Science at the University of Ottawa. Her journey in tech began in 2017 — while working part-time at Apple, she witnessed the impact technology had on a consumer level, especially in healthcare, and was especially moved by the freedom and peace of mind it afforded its users. After taking an introductory course in Python, she was sold and decided to pursue the field and explore how she could blend her background in Biomedical Science with Computer Science. Moving forward, she interned at companies such as Morgan Stanley, Deloitte, and Google, and worked on research projects in the fields of computational neuroscience, deep learning, and digital signal processing. Her journey has inspired her to make knowledge of programming and technology as a whole more accessible, and the field itself more diverse and inclusive.

The MWIL Team
Introducing our VP Outreach: Albane is super stoked to be on MWIL’s executive board this year, serving as the VP Outreach. She is in her third year at McGill, double majoring in Political Science and International Development. She is from France, and has also lived in the US for over half of her life. After being on the Outreach Portfolio last year as a Director, she fell in love with MWIL’s mission to empower women on campus and in the Montreal community. Being head of the Outreach portion of the club means that Albane gets to interact with the greater Montreal community, by working with women charities. As well, she loves the fact that MWIL is a club that has women from all of the faculties at McGill, as she believes that it provides the team with a more overarching interesting and wide-ranging dynamic. She has met great people from being a part of this club on campus, and has benefited both personally and professionally from this experience, and hopes MWIL members will too! You can find her running up Mont Royal when she is not on campus studying or trying (as best as she can!) to manage her busy schedule!
ntroducing our VP Sponsorship: Abbey Kaminker is a fourth year student studying Finance and Business Analytics. Given that her degree is in a field that has been traditionally male-dominated, Abbey is especially passionate about helping women and non-binary students gain access to the information and support network they need to be empowered as a leader. Previously the Vice President of Sponsorship for the Desautels Women in Business club in the Desautels Faculty of Management, Abbey is excited to be a part of an organization in which the mission of women empowerment is extended across faculties.
Introducing our VP Marketing: Luiza Monteiro is a fourth-year mechanical engineering student who enjoys staying involved on campus and in student life initiatives. As part of a male-dominant field, Luiza recognizes the importance of empowering women to tap into their full potential and overcome obstacles, which is her motivation behind joining MWIL’s executive team. Luiza enjoys unleashing her creativity and passion for the arts through painting, crocheting, and brainstorming visual identities and marketing campaigns. Her goal is to pursue a career where she can work towards environmental protection and the technological development of energy-efficient systems. Luiza is excited to be part of a team of inspiring women, and is looking forward to MWIL’s future initiatives on and off campus!
Introducing our VP Mentorship: Konstantina is so excited to be a part of MWIL’s executive board. Konstantina grew up in Greece and she is currently in her third year at McGill. She is a Political Science Major, with a minor in Sociology and Gender, Sexuality, Feminist, and Social Justice Studies. She joined MWIL to help young women and non-binary people to find mentors and fulfill their full potential. In her free time Konstantina loves to go out with her friends, go to concerts and listen to music.
Introducing our VP Finance: You might be wondering who Amina Dan Bouzoua is? As an international student from New York City, USA and Niamey, Niger, Amina is a U3 Finance student at Desautels Faculty of Management. More than that, she is a joyful and charismatic girl who is always ready to make her friends and family laugh. In her free time, Amina loves to dance, sing, watch Netflix, and most of all nap. While in the world of Finance, there is not enough representation of women—most especially women of colour. Amina hopes that being VP of Finance will enable her to gain leadership skills— while impacting other McGill women. While this position is one year, Amina aims to become a female leader in the future and what is the best way to start then by joining McGill Women in Leadership (MWIL)!
Introducing our fourth speaker for our EMPOWER: Experiences in Intersectionality Panel:
Mariam Hammodi graduated from law school at the University of Montréal. Prior to her law degree, she holds a bachelors degrees in sciences from the same university. She currently works at Desjardins in their data privacy department.
When she’s not busy being a lawyer, she likes to get involved in her own community and helping those around her. She’s also the VP events for the CMLA(Canadian Muslim Law Association). Mariam wears many hats: lawyer, analyst, vice-president, and is an entrepreneur at heart. She is currently learning about AI and wishes to foster that creativity into a tangible product one day.
