Ruby & Bruno helped Watsi learn the routines of our off-leash hiking adventures today! So many grouse distractions! Their activity gave the dogs lots to sniff & search! But they listened well to recalls! Put on the km’s to go down a new part of a trail that we usually go left instead of right (but we had to double back) so they enjoyed that! 🥳Introducing Frank (Mastiff/Rhodesian) & Fiona (Golden Doodle) the new kids joining the Tuesday group! We’ve been working behind the scenes with the help of several of their group mates Covee, Zelda, & Fritz (& Ruby) to get these two pups ready to integrate into the big group. Frank & Fiona have been working hard in the Trail Etiquette Training Program at their individual recalls, group recalls & learning the emergency recall. They are learning impulse control at pick up, sit & wait politely to earn their way through doorways, waiting for permission in & out of the van, sit stay & release cue, name game for treats so they don’t try to grab someone else’s treat, listening to other dog’s communication signals when the play is uninvited & to stop play when consent is withdrawn. Lastly, they are learning to walk politely on leash in a group walk to & from the van. They are fast learners & ready to see how they do this Tuesday! 💥Well, we had Vivian new to the crew today! While being able to follow directions once we arrive at our trailhead is an important skill that we practice everyday it’s even more important with the excitement of a new friend. First hike of 2024 & the dogs were delighted to find SNOW! ❄️ Thank goodness I’ve been prepared for snow since October 😅 but a few had to sit out today because of it. 🥶 With the extra afflatus that the white stuff brings everyone listened well! They practiced their trail etiquette at the end when we politely waited for a few Boston Terriers to pass by. Well done crew after such a long break!
