Visiting the UK, there happened to be a fashion show at Blenheim Palace when we visited, thought I’d share the ‘Waste Dress’ by Stella McCartney crafted from repurposed materials & of course the fabulous iconic patched coat inspired by the Beatles. 🇬🇧

A lap blanket I made out of gently used clothing & a thrift shop blanket for backing. It was a gift for my partner’s sister for her 80th birthday. She has always welcomed everyone to her beautiful home to visit & to eat, so the theme is ‘home is where the heart is’. She is enjoying the blanket when she has her naps. Rethink your used clothes, they may have another life. ❤️

‘There’s a hole in your pocket’ can be so annoying & it took me way too long to mend it. I had actually mended this coat a few times by adding bits of fabric to the existing pocket, but then it would tear again. This time I opened up the bottom of the coat & replaced half the pocket & am so happy, although the weather is too mild at the moment to need it. Still extended the life of this coat. Reclothe, Reduce, Reuse Recycle.

The cuffs of my favourite black hoodie were fraying, so I sewed some soft binding over the edges with zigzag stitching. One sleeve was worse, so I added an extra piece & also sewed the edge of the thumb hole. Not very pretty but hopefully effective mending. Reclothe, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

I’ve always wanted to make a scenic fabric collage but have never got round to it. Then I thought why not make a scenic patch while we are out on the boat. I have added detail to the trees with different stitches, am now adding snow to the mountain tops. Having fun….🌲

Back from my trip, raring to go & looking forward to seeing you at the Harbourfront Library, Nanaimo on Saturday at 11am for our Mending Social. Mending or altering, helping our clothes last longer is the answer & sewing together is so much fun… 🪡🧵😜

My partner loves these shorts as they are comfy, but he rips the corners of the back pockets. Latest fix, I ironed on a patch on the back before zigzag sewing up & down under the pocket & then straight sewing the pocket back down. Not perfect but at least he can wear them again now.

Mending small holes in a favourite dress/tunic while we wait for our truck to be fixed.
Visible mending but it blends in because of the colors used. Not perfect but wearable again - giving new life to used clothes….
