Indigenous Story Tellers
Are you In BC or Washington and interested in being part of the future? We are helping develop a permanent exhibition for the Vancouver Maritime Museum and are looking for canoe stories. You can tell your own story or share a story you might have learned as a child. The stories can be submitted by email or in writing....You can video or record yourself with a phone.... In some cases we can even come to you and video you. Curators, Knowledge keepers and Elders will be choosing the stories that best fit into the final exhibition. If you are chosen your photo and name will be part of the exhibition for all the world to see. Let us know by private messaging us.

Here is Rose Joseph working on a dugout. Rose is originally from Ahousaht First Nation, Vancouver Island, but living in Burquitlam. Come visit the rest of the canoe builders working with Squamish Nation Carver Mike Billy, at the PNE, in the Canoe Cultures exhibition at the Italian Gardens. Open now until September 4th.

Community members are invited to celebrate the return of Sen̓áḵw lands to Sḵwx̱wú7mesh people and acknowledge the lands development. We will honour this momentous occasion with a traditional BBQ, speeches, performances, and an arrival of canoes to the Sen̓áḵw shore (Kitsilano area).
