Join us today for the latest HCA talk: Alcohol, Wellbeing and the Role of Health
Alcohol is a ubiquitous, addictive and socially encouraged substance that has become so normalized, we no longer question it. There is a lot of misinformation in the world about alcohol’s inherent risks and harms as well as about addiction. The majority of adults of drinking age consume alcohol and in many cases, are doing so without having all the information to make an informed decision about those risks and harms.

Given the context of a readily available, addictive substance that is misunderstood in terms of immediate and long term impacts, the potential for folks to develop a problematic relationship with alcohol is high. With the vast amounts of confusing information about both alcohol and addiction, it can be challenging for health coaches to know how to adequately and effectively support their clients in this area. At the same time, health coaches are uniquely positioned to provide essential support when it comes to helping their clients change their habits, mindsets and relationships with alcohol. By attending this talk, you will walk away with:
* Accurate, evidence-based information on alcohol and addiction through a wellbeing lens to more adequately support your client
* A better understanding of low risk drinking guidelines and what to look out for when it comes to clients and alcohol consumption
* Tips and suggestions on how to support clients wishing to change their relationship with alcohol
* New tools and resourcess

Amy C. Willis (she/her) is the Holistic Sober Coach and founded HOL + WELL in 2019. Very excited to announce the next HCA Member Workshop with Environmental Health Expert, Lara Adler.

Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals: What Every Health Practitioner Needs To Know

August 3 @ 1PM PST

Endocrine-Disrupting chemicals are one of the primary threats to human health. As health professionals who are actively supporting clients, patients, or customers in optimizing health, part of this work must include an in-depth discussion of environmental chemicals as a whole, and endocrine-disrupting chemicals in particular.

With over 1,000 chemicals already identified as being endocrine-disrupting, and ubiquitous exposure, the consensus among environmental health researchers, and organizations like The Endocrine Society, The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and even the World Health Organization is that health professionals need to support clients on toxicant avoidance.

In this workshop, you'll learn:
* Many of the ways that EDCs may be causing or contributing to the metabolic issues, hormone issues, & gut issues your clients, patients, or customers may be dealing with.
* Strategies for integrating discussion of toxicant exposures into your business in ways that are empowering, informative, and accessible (and that can mean the difference between clients taking action, or not)
* How sharing information about environmental toxicants can help differentiate your work, help you stand out, and attract more clients (and why pointing clients away from yourself and towards other social media accounts, blogs, or youtube isn’t the best way to educate on a topic as complex and nuanced as toxins)
* Why being able to “talk toxins” in a clear, confident, and concise way will improve client compliance around minimizing exposures, and in turn transform their results, and your business

Space is limited so make sure you sign up in lots of time. CE Credits Available.

February 13, 2023 @ 3:00 pm PST

Lecturer: Shelly-Anne Mckay, Duration - 45 minutes, Q&A follows.

Many clients come to us with the goal of losing weight; especially after a few diet attempts failed. They often start strong and then in a few weeks come to session saying they “have fallen off track”. Does this sound familiar? Do your clients struggle with this? Do you feel like you just aren’t equipped to support them to create and achieve success despite your top-quality health coach training?

Truly understanding the core coaching competencies and how to leverage them in a way that really taps into our clients’ deepest desires, intrinsic motivations and vision for wellness sounds easier than it is. NEUROPLASTICITY AND BRAIN LONGEVITY
December 12, 2022 @ 11am PST

Lecturer: Aga Szmitkowska, Ph.D, Duration - 45 minutes, Q&A follows.

Neuroplasticity is a term used to describe a broad spectrum of neuronal activities encompassing multiple mechanisms involved in the changes that occur in the brain during one's life. These include the brain’s ability to modify, adapt, and change its structure and function as a response to life experiences. These changes are regulated by various neurotransmitters like glutamate, acetylcholine, epinephrine, and dopamine and their varying expression levels. Suboptimal expression of these transmitters may lead to cognitive decline as age progresses. There are many ways of improving neuroplasticity through activities for cognitive development. In this talk, you will find suggestions on how to incorporate those activities into your practice and prolong the healthy mental longevity of your clients.

When: November 10, 2022 at 11am PST
Lecturer: Dr. Marina Martinic Kavur, duration – 30 minutes, Q&A follows

In this lecture we will “Take glycans to heart“ and give you an insight into the importance of glycans for cardiovascular health. Ageing increases the risk of cardiovascular disease through a complex network of molecular events. However, that risk is not the same for all the chronological age contemporaries. Instead, it depends on a myriad of factors, including blood cholesterol, LDL, lifestyle choices, genetics, and medical history. Glycosylation affects cardiovascular health in multiple ways. Directly (e.g. in the case of congenital glycosylation disorders) or indirectly through altered glycan patterns on the cells of the blood vessels and immune cells, as well as alterations of glycosylation patterns associated with an unhealthy lifestyle. This lecture will introduce you to the effects of glycosylation on cardiometabolic disease mechanisms and then focus on the Immunoglobulin G glycans and the latest discoveries about their correlation with cardiovascular health.
