It's dry pack day and these guys are getting dirty and working so hard. Not only will they use their precision skills and tools to level out a basement floor, but they will create a miracle in the new bathroom by setting up for a curbless shower! In the basement! Going curbless in a basement is very rare, so I am feeling pretty lucky and very happy today!!! 😊

As a designer, I spend some days on the road and some days at my desk. Yesterday, I made 12 stops!! Some of these stops included serious meetings and some of these stops were to investigate what is needed for a project and some of these stops were to review, select and pick up samples.

Now, I absolutely love my job!!!! I love dreaming up new spaces, putting it all down and paper and bringing it to a reality. It is so satisfying and rewarding. The people I get to meet and have built relationships with, has been a great pleasure. The loyalty and respect that has been developed over the many years of dealing with the same trustworthy people, has made my work feel like I am working amongst close friends, yet, with every project, something new pops up and I find myself sourcing out new products and meeting new friends!

With this said, I must admit and put this out there to clear a misconception....THERE IS NOTHING GLAMOUROUS ABOUT BEING A DESIGNER! This is exhausting work. Loading and unloading large samples in and out of your vehicle, drawings, specifications, engineering/fabricating new custom elements for your home, hours and hours of admin work, answering emails, phone calls, text messages, coordinating orders, deliveries and trades, all while trying to look like a walking/travelling fashion model yourself. The hours and days are extremely long and my brain does not shut down. No complaints here and I wouldn't have it any other way. My career is far from being routinely boring.

Yesterday, I thought I looked well put together when I left very early in the morning, but by 6 pm, I was a hot mess. Covered in dust from being at my stone fabricator and ending up with a bruise on my leg from a heavy tile sample banging into me, down on my hands and knees to inspect plumbing lines on a very dusty job site, and when testing out a new paint spray finish, it got on my nice coat. Time is of the essence and I have to work fast. Going from one destination to the other is an Olympic sport. Then ,when I get back to my home office, I still have work to do. This is just small stuff, but it is my weekly reality.

With this said, I have to say that everyday is an adventure and I always have a great story to tell....
