Way back we made a roof for Cooper RSR out of fibreglass, the more I look at it, the more I am dissapointed. Not that I used fibreglass but that the finish on the stitched fibreglass was not as good as I expected given the information I was provided. We are planning something to fix that issue but in the meantime I thought I would post the first of two videos we produced. Our intension is to make a couple of short videos and then get back to making one showing how we fixed the smoothness issue. MotorWerks Magazine’s project MINI, CooperRSR

Purchased in 2012 with just under 60,000 kms, CooperRSR was our first foray into a FWD project car. Other than drilled brake rotors the car arrived completely standard. Our initial track day was at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Mosport GP) with Budds’ BMW. In the first years CooperRSR saw duty in the BMW Clubs Canada Trillium Chapter Autoslalom series where we won our class and finished in the top ten overall.

Initial upgrades were a pair of MOMO Daytona seats with halo headrests as well as a MOMO MOD 30 steering wheel. Later on I replaced the wheel with a larger 40 year old MOMO Jackie Stewart as I felt the MOD 30 was just a tad too small.

As my company HeadsUpRacer.com is Canada’s only Elite Racepak dealer we wanted to showcase some Racepak products to road racing and time attack competitors. To that end we fitted their entry level closed course datalogger the G2X and upgraded the mini day that comes with the system to a IQ3 display dash.

The G2X was temporarily fixed in CooperRSR by adding big hook Velcro on its rear surface and then sticking it to the back of a folded down rear seat. The GPS antenna was run out of the rear hatch where a magnet hold the antenna on the roof. DC power was supplied to the unit thru the cigarette lighter socket in the rear hatch area. The yellow wire seen in the above photo was connected to the tach pin on the OBDII port and generated the RPM on the dash. Racepak’s propriety V-Net wiring seen above with the blue latch runs to the IQ3 and other daisy-chained components. In 2017 the datalogger was changed to Racepak’s top of the line G2X Pro and their Power Distribution Module the Smartwire was incorporated into the system.
