Ramadan Mubarak! As we enter this month of fasting, we want to share some tips for healthy fasting to support your overall health and wellbeing.
Stay hydrated: Make sure to drink plenty of water during non-fasting hours to avoid dehydration. Avoid sugary drinks and opt for water, herbal teas, and fresh juices.
Eat balanced meals: During non-fasting hours, focus on eating nutrient-dense foods that are rich in fiber, protein, and healthy fats. This can help keep you full and energized throughout the day.
Avoid processed foods: Try to minimize your intake of processed foods, which can be high in unhealthy fats, sugar, and salt. Instead, choose whole, unprocessed foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.
Eat protein and healthy fats at sohour: To balance blood sugar and give a feeling of satiety, make sure to include protein and healthy fats in your pre-dawn meal (sohour). Examples include eggs, nuts, avocados, and olive oil.
Exercise mindfully: While fasting, it's important to be mindful of your body's energy levels. You may need to adjust your exercise routine to avoid overexertion during fasting hours.
Get enough sleep: Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night to support your body's natural healing and regeneration processes.
Remember, fasting can be a powerful tool for promoting health and wellbeing when done correctly. If you have any questions or concerns about fasting during Ramadan, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Wishing you a happy and healthy Ramadan!

Today is my daughter’s birthday!
Because we are stranded in the house, she decided to treat herself by making some delicious gluten-free cupcakes. Her best friend decided that she wanted to come and bring her a present and say Happy Birthday to her in person. She came but remained in our driveway. She kept her social distance. My daughter and her friend couldn’t hug each other.
I felt an immense amount of sadness. But, I started to think about the message that we’re getting from this situation that the whole world has been living through for the past couple of weeks. I started to remember the millions of people around the world that have been either stranded in a confined zone (Palestinians in Gaza and Uyghurs in China) for years or have been displaced from their homes and have been living in miserable situations in refugee camps like Syrian people. Millions of people around the world have been in a dreadful situation without access to food, clean water, or health care. Millions don’t feel safe because of the war and the bombs that are continuously being dropped over their heads (Syria, Yemen, Iraq and many more). They have been living in fear, stress, and hunger. A lot of us didn’t provide the support that those people needed. We remained ignorant of all the dire situations happening around the world and turned a blind eye to those hurting.
Now, millions of people around the world live in fear because of a hidden enemy. We are stressed because we can’t go out, we can’t spend time with our families and friends, we can’t enjoy anything that we used to enjoy. But also, we need to be mindful and aware that there are others who are suffering through this pandemic. Although, unlike many of us, they don’t have the security of a shelter, a meal to warm their souls, family members to keep them company or even the guarantee they’ll have the money to provide their families with the essentials of living. There are people who are waking up and falling asleep with the fear of not being able to make it another day.
So, learn to be conscious of all those who may be suffering quietly, both the ones suffering during this pandemic and those who have been suffering (and still are) for years.
We will overcome the struggles of this pandemic and get through this together (God willing), as long as we are compassionate and thinking of the well-being of humanity.
The most important thing is that when we come out of this, we continue to remember the millions of people that need help and support.
COVID-19 Q&A
1- How long does the virus stay on the surfaces?
It depends on the surface. It could stay for 3 hours in the air. On copper surfaces, it could stay for 4 hours. On cardboard, it could stay for 1 day. On plastic and steel, it could stay for 3 days.
2- Could the virus be transmitted through foods?
Until now, there haven't been any documented cases that got infected through this method of transmission. COVID-19 virus works by replicating in the cells of the respiratory tract. It will not survive in the digestive tract.
3- Is it safe to eat foods that are prepared outside?
Although this virus is not food-borne, it is better to reheat the food. The heat (65 celsius or 149 Fehrenhite) will destroy the virus in 3 minutes.
4- What is the best way to disinfect?
Soap works perfectly fine to destroy the outside lipid layer of the virus. Other approved disinfectants are 62% ethanol, 70% isopropanol, sodium hypochlorite (Clorox), and quaternary ammonium.
5- What are other tips to help reduce the spread of the infection?
- STAY HOME
- Keep your social distance
- Don't go shopping frequently
- Send one of the family members to do the shopping
- Leave your shoes by the door
- Clean your hands and any package that contains food from outside
- Cut your nails short
STAY SAFE AND SOUND!
We are sending a message of love and support to all of you. We will push through this together!
We are here to support you.
The most important things that you can do for your health:
Stay positive and relaxed
Stay hydrated
Eat healthy
Have good quality sleep
Practice social distancing
Stay safe and sound :)
What you need to know about COVID-19
I have spent the last few days trying to collect the most up to date information from scientific journals regarding the COVID19 pandemic. In this article, I am trying to empower you with verified information. I know the internet is flooded with fake news and unverified health advice, this is the right time to search for the scientific up to date information and I have done that for you.
I will continue reviewing the scientific journals to keep you updated.
"COVID-19 is the most recent pandemic that has affected most of the countries around the globe. The last number of reported infected people globally is 198,178 with 7,965 deaths. The rate of infection spread is high and the fear is building up around the world. Up until now, there has not been a cure found for this viral infection."
"Stress affects the immune system tremendously. Keep calm and try to enjoy your time with your family and be creative in entertaining yourself and family indoors. A study that was published in a prestigious scientific journal experimented the rate of infection of healthy individuals who were given nasal drops that had viruses that cause common cold (including another type of coronavirus) and correlation with stress. They found that the rate of infection was 74-90% according to the level of stress."

To all the wonderful women out there, Happy International Women’s Day. This year’s theme is all about balance; how we can balance our lives in a healthy and wholesome way. In this fast paced world, you must learn the balance between outer responsibilities and your inner self. You must learn to give yourself time and know when you need to stop and take a breath. Sometimes you’ll find yourself so caught up and invested in day-to-day obstacles and dilemmas to the point where you’ll forget to take a step back and enjoy where you are, to enjoy the present moment.
As women, we know that sometimes we have to put a little extra effort to be heard and to rise up in professional and influential levels, so we’ll think “I just have to push myself a little more, a little harder”. We ignore all the signs of our body telling us to stop and rest, only if for a little while. We believe that in order to be successful and to reach our full potential, we must push ourselves to the max. But to be empowered and strong we have to leave some time for our mental wellbeing.
So, learn to nourish your soul with what makes you happy; walk through nature and let its beauty and serenity envelope you, treat yourself with a few minutes a day to enjoy a nice cup of tea. And most importantly, learn to not feel guilty about saying no to someone, understand that you do not need to be a perfectionist if it means you’ll be pushing yourself over the top or overwhelming yourself. And finally learn to stop and listen to your body when it is calling out for you to take care of yourself.
I am on my way back from Atlanta, GA. I had such a great time at an amazing Functional Medicine conference. I was busy learning the latest advances in functional medicine and discussing different approaches to optimize our patients’ health with my fellow functional medicine doctors.
Autoimmune diseases are on the rise. They are the most common disorders after cancer and heart disease. From the conventional medicine perspective, there is no cure for autoimmune diseases, but functional medicine may have a solution.
As Functional Medicine doctors, we look into the triggers and the root causes.
Autoimmune and chronic health conditions start when the internal body environment undergoes changes to stimulate the body to react against its own cells, fuelling the fire of inflammation. This will lead to different conditions, like thyroid dysfunction, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, asthma, allergies etc.
Functional Medicine collects the pieces of the puzzle to understand how the inflammation started and lays out the foundation to put out the fire.
It’s amazing how we can help patients to live a better quality life without the dreadful side effects of pharmaceuticals. Functional Medicine is so empowering to both patients and physicians.

Do you struggle with obesity, low energy, depression, hair loss, insomnia, bad memory?
YOU MIGHT HAVE HORMONAL IMBALANCE
Learn 7 steps to balance your hormones
Our hormones are secreted by different organs and glands such as pituitary, thyroid, adrenals, and pancreas. The most important hormones that affect our normal body functions and our well-being are cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and thyroid hormones. They work together in a very complex relationship, they affect each other and get affected by other factors like sleep, diet and stress level.
If you read the following symptoms and say yes, this is me, you might have some sort of hormonal imbalance:
It is so difficult to fall to sleep and if I sleep, my sleep is unrested.
I wake up in the morning with extreme difficulty and I need to drag myself out of the bed to start my day
I feel tired all the time, I can’t keep going without drinking coffee
I eat too much, I feel sad because I can’t stop myself
I crave chocolate, I am a chocoholic and I can’t do anything about it
My memory sucks! I can’t focus anymore!
Oh my God, I am losing hair like crazy!
I am always bloated and constipated
My period is terrible, I have to miss my school every month
I’m gaining weight, I have acne and some facial hair
You can follow these simple steps to balance your hormones:
1- Find out what sort of imbalance you have.
You might have one of the following:
Excess estrogen hormone
Thyroid dysfunction (Thyroid gland secretes hormones that are involved in everybody function that you can imagine, they balance your metabolism and they regulate body temperature, weight, digestion, and fertility)
Adrenal fatigue (weak adrenal glands, the glands that are above your kidneys, they secrete cortisol hormone that is responsible for balancing your mood and creating the stress response)
2- Eat a balanced diet with fewer carbs and more healthy fat
3- Exercise daily for 30 minutes
4- Get enough hours of good quality sleep
5- Meditate daily
6- Balance your digestive system (treat your constipation and balance your intestinal beneficial bacteria)
