Jaw Deviation/crossbite corrected at 8 years old.

A crossbite is a form of teeth misalignment that occurs when a healthy bite is distorted, and teeth don’t fit together as they should. In most cases, crossbites are hereditary—if someone in the family had a misaligned bite, they should pay an orthodontist a visit and keep their oral health in check. Crossbites are not self-correcting, an untreated crossbite can put excessive stress on the jawbone, leading to a number of more serious issues.

In some teens and adults, crossbites can be treated by braces or Invisalign treatments. In some cases, surgery might be a part of the treatment plan. Children with crossbite should begin treatment at an early age to enhance their chances of full correction and avoid any further shifts or deviations in their bite.

If you believe you might have a crossbite, make an appointment with our office today at 905-339-1001, we will help with the diagnosis and plan your next steps.

Our 5 dental tips for keeping your child’s teeth healthy

Tip # 1 The Canadian Dental Association recommends the assessment of infants, by a dentist, within 6 months of the eruption of the first tooth or by one year of age. The goal is to have your child visit the dentist before there is a problem with his or her teeth.

Tip # 2 We strive to make a child’s first dental appointment fun and educational. It’s usually not a “good” initial visit when a parent brings a child in for the first time who has a tooth that hurts because of a large cavity they have to have filled. It’s all about a positive experience to develop comfort and trust.

Tip # 3 Children from 3 to 6 years of age should be assisted by an adult in brushing their teeth.  An appropriate target age for brushing independently is around age 6, however flossing takes a little longer. It’s important to teach kids how to brush and floss independently, but it’s just as important that, as parents, we make sure they are doing what it takes to adequately clean their teeth and gums.

Tip # 4 Some baby teeth will be in your child's mouth until age 12. A dentist can help fix broken teeth or teeth that are infected by removing the decay and filling the hole with a sealant. A filling can be a cheap and easy way to fix a problem that could be painful and cost more later because it stops decay from spreading deeper into the tooth.

Tip # 5 Our children will learn their eating habits from us! We should set a good example by eating a healthy and varied diet. Calcium is very important in the formation of strong teeth. Milk, cheeses, almonds, white/red beans and oranges are a good source of calcium. A daily multivitamin may also be beneficial. It’s also important to avoid food and drinks that are acidic or full of sugar.

Missing teeth should usually be replaced to help regain your ability to chew, prevent other teeth from shifting, and to help restore your smile. If you have missing one or more teeth, including front teeth, a dental bridge can help restore the look and function of your teeth. It bridges the gap where the missing tooth or teeth are. To get a dental bridge, you need healthy teeth on either side as anchoring or supporting teeth.  The supporting teeth or implants are sometimes called abutments.
In this procedure, each abutment is prepared to receive full crowns or caps. When completed, the bridge is cemented into position over the supporting abutments.

“Highly recommend - I've been to numerous dentists related to cavities and root canals in the past. I came here originally as they were the only dentist in the area open Saturdays. Within a few days I had caught up on years of missed dental visits. My fillings were done faster and with virtually no pain - something I assumed was just a natural part of dental procedures. I also was made aware of an extra tooth in the region of my wisdom teeth obviously missed on previous radiographs at other clinics..”– Mathew

Wherever you are, whatever the circumstances you might be facing right now, there is always the hope of good things to come.
During these unprecedented times, let's remind each other to be kind and recognize that people are challenged and suffering in ways we may not be able to comprehend. Let's heed the advice and expertise of those whose lives that are focussed on science and facts, not fiction and hyperbole. At some point, the world will right itself, but that’s going to take time. Within all of us, now is the time for not only individual civic responsibility, but global compassion. Stay home. Stay safe.

Our 14 years old patient had a coronal 2/3rd fracture. We placed a Porcelain Crown to restore aesthetic and function.
If your tooth is damaged but not lost, a crown can be used to restore its shape, appearance and function. You may need a crown if you have a root canal, a large filling in a tooth or a broken tooth.
A crown, also called a cap, is a hollow, artificial tooth used to cover a damaged or decayed tooth. The crown restores the tooth and protects it from further damage. Crowns can also be used to cover a discoloured or misshapen tooth. A tooth that has been fixed with a crown looks and works very much like a natural tooth.
