Carleton University Astronomy Club
Carleton University Astronomy Club!
CU Astro will be hosting a general meeting in CB 3400 on Thursday March 21st at 7pm to review our year as a club, get your feedback, and eat pizza! π
After the AGM, we are going to have an Astronomy Night outside where, weather permitting, we will be setting up some telescopes outside, including our newly acquired telescope! ππ«
Anyone is welcome to attend!
Interested in joining the CU Astro exec team and helping run the club? Elections have officially opened up for next year and we'd love to have you join! π
The positions do not require any previous experience (other than President) and all returning Carleton undergrad students are welcome to run!
If you are interested in running, submit your name and which position you want to run for here: https://forms.office.com/r/dVQv4spWF1
Good luck! ππ«πΈ

EDIT: The event has been pushed back to Saturday, August 26th, due to bad weather. Start time (8:00PM) remains the same!
Join us next Thursday, August 24th, for some stargazing and a bake sale! Pizza and telescopes will be provided π π
The event will start at 8:00PM and will be held in the main parking lot of the Experimental Farm
We will be providing telescopes and pizza, make sure to bring a sweater (and maybe a blanket/flightsuit!) π
CU Astro is going to be hosting our first talk on Wednesday, 29 March 2023 at 19:00 in AP 132 (easy to find - enter AP through the main doors, and walk straight down the main hallway to the end - the room is right there). Our speaker will be Chuck O'Dale, past president of the Ottawa chapter of the Royal Astronomy Society of Canada, and he's prepared a presentation on his adventures exploring craters all over North America πβ
His method of research blends space with both aviation and geology - he owns a small aircraft (C-GOZM - GOZooM) that he flies around to visually identify crater candidates, and then visits the sites and conducts other tests. His website contains a lot more interesting information about the work he's done: https://craterexplorer.ca/
If you're interested in any of those subjects (space, rocks, planes, or some combination of the three), please come on out! There will also be free pizza for everyone who attends! π
The meeting will also be held on ZOOM for anyone remote!
Please RSVP to the Discord event (link in bio)!
