Maki Rink Crystal Beach
Community rink in the finest neighbourhood in all the land!
In case you didn’t know how Maki Park got it’s name.
Today, we remember the anniversary of a fallen officer, Constable John Robert Maki (August 22, 1935 – April 4, 1966).
Cst. Maki was 30 years old with 10 years of service.
On April 4, 1966, Cst. Maki was responding to a complaint of a man walking on a road discarding his clothing. The man was taken to the Royal Ottawa Sanatorium. A struggle ensued when the man tried to flee. He was able to remove Cst. Maki’s revolver from his holster and fire five shots, killing him. The man was later found not guilty of the murder by reason of insanity. Cst. Maki was survived by his wife Marlyn.
The job of a police officer is a demanding one but for some officers, the contributions made in the line of duty are immeasurable. This weekend, we honour a man who made the ultimate sacrifice while working to keep Ottawa’s streets safe.
What a difference one week makes 😳😳😳😳😳
From Open to Grass!
RIP 🪦 my beautiful ice 🧊
See you next year CB Beauties 🥅🏒⛸️
Shocker of the year, bonus last night of the year. Open tonight till 9, the shack will even be open 7-9. Enjoy your evening,
Come enjoy the ice before Mother Nature finishes us off for good. The shack will be open today and tomorrow 12-9 p.m. Ice is great in most spots, grab a shovel for your fellow neighbour to enjoy the finest ice 🧊
Just a beautiful double flood, ready for you to enjoy this morning. We then get to enjoy another warm spell which will likely be the end of this🎢 season.
The Monday lads (Dennis Rice and Sijo Joy) tossed on a beauty double flood. Tomorrow could be the last day of the year with more warm weather heading our way! Come out and enjoy my beautiful surface!
Congrats to the CB’s own Brandt Clarke for scoring his first NHL goal.
A legendary performance from the Maki Rink Crew 🫡💪👏 From grass Tuesday to open Saturday. The amount of effort from the boys has been phenomenal. From morning to night, over 30 floods, 15 cm of snow removal, the ice has been restored in our 5th rebuild of the year, all 4❤️💎🏝️ Thank you for bringing me back to life, come for a skate before the season comes to an end 🥅🏒⛸️ Open today till 9pm.
Good from far but far from good, it will be a good while people will be skating in this part of the hood. A great evening trying to salvage our special place from @ Sijo Joy, @ Brandon Lloyd and
Great job to our rink staff ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cal, Shea, Sam, Matt N’ Yann today on prepping the rink for rebuild 4.0 of the 2023-24 season. We need cold weather, about 10 floods and a little luck here 🍀
This is devastating, we’ll see what we can do 4❤️💎🏝️
I am not crying, you’re crying 😭
The weather network with a not so funny joke, “Nice weekend for ice skating” 💩
See you next week, hopefully 🤞 Please stay off the ice surfaces so we can reopen asap, enjoy the warm weather 👎
Thanks to Shea, Miller, and the Wednesday night lads for repairing all the holes in the ice and giving me a fresh coat 🧥 Open today until 11:00 a.m, then we will sadly have to close up with plus temperatures and rain for the foreseeable future. Then no doubt our last re-build of the season 🤯 As always we’ll go down flooding 4❤️💎🏝️
Open today after school till 9 p.m. as long as conditions remain the same. They are variable right now, ground water has come up at the hockey rink entrance (smells like 💩), hollow spots have developed from the sun beating down (please avoid those areas) we continue to fill them with slush but more keep popping up and the town home side (in Maki Rink Crew lingo the Caribbean🏝️boards) have basically melted to snow due to the 🌞 Enjoy and be safe CB, we love ya!
Great job by Matt Pilson, Simon Creasy and Brandon Lloyd filling holes and flooding last night. We have ground water and hollow holes 🕳️ in some spots. We are closed for now but will assess the situation to see if we can open this evening. Stay tuned. The battle to stay open continues. With the impending weather we will be closed from Thursday on and will start rebuilding the rink again when the colder temperatures come back to us. The effort levels from our crew has been top notch and all 4❤️💎🏝️
A 5 Amer 4❤️💎🏝️
This is not a recording, closed due to Mother Nature wanting our afternoon temperature to be plus 4. Open back tonight at 7:15-9:00. Enjoy the sunshine 🌞
A beauty Sunday flood by Matt N Yann Lawncutting Great job fellas 4❤️💎🏝️
Exclusive permit for our local Beavers 🦫 tomorrow night (Monday February 5th) from 6:15-7:30.
Woohoo, we’re open again, come skate or play hockey anytime. “The Shack” (the basement) is open for everyone 12-3, 6-9 both today and tomorrow! Enjoy your skate 😎
Great night prepping the rink for the weekend. With the exception of our visitor who decided to skate in between floods, even when our hose was out on the surface. Hopefully our extra coat smoothed out the skate marks. We all do this for everyone to enjoy our fav rink as much as possible but please exercise common sense if the ice is being ruined while you’re on it, please get off. If the ice is awesome and you’re enjoying it, grab a shovel and shovel it off for your next neighbours turn to use the finest ice.
We’re open tomorrow morning for skating and hockey. See you tomorrow 💎🏝️
Maintenance and flooding evening. We will be open all weekend for you with indoor style ice 😎
We need the a deep freeze 🥶 and a couple floods and we will hopefully reopen Saturday, stay tuned!
We will soon have a full runway of mats from the shack to the rink. Thank you Ben Ellacott (BE Electric) for donating the mats and Tim Hewson for his previous mat donation.
Closed again due to Mother Nature, we’ll be back open Saturday most likely. 4❤️💎🏝️
Thank you CB Beauties. So great seeing our official volunteers and other CB Beauties getting our rink cleared off before more bad weather. We will be open very 🔜
Dan Guay and Matt Monfils have been grinding. We’re getting close. Stay tuned 4❤️💎🏝️
