On This Day in Our History 🌷

E. R. (Bud) Fisher, our second-generation owner, was the President of the Ottawa Board of Trade in 1953, when the Board played a pivotal role in the creation of our beloved Canadian Tulip Festival, in partnership with Ottawa photographer Malak Karsh.

In subsequent years, the Board went to great lengths to publicize the festival, both nationally and internationally, making it one of Ottawa's most popular spring attractions.

Today, we celebrated... Exactly 50 years, to the day, the day a young Calabrian, Mr. Ezio Timpano, decided to join E.R. Fisher Ltd.

An ambitious 20-something in our Tailor Shop on Sparks Street, Ezio soon made an impression and began introducing new ways of working, eventually changing the way we worked, for the better.

Industry traditionalists believe that Tailors should not spend time on the sales floor, leaving the “selling” to the sales team, but it was clear to management, from early on, that it wasn’t only a suit or blazer customers were buying from us, it was Ezio.

Watching him work on the sales floor with a tailored clothing customer has been a source of pure joy for many, not only in observing his tremendous talent in sizing up any figure, the artistry in his understanding of the human body and garment construction, but also by watching the way he automatically puts customers at ease. Sometimes, it was a gentle re-assuring touch on the shoulder to say “everything is going to be ok, you are going to look great” to a story about his hometown, to a preferred way to make a favourite meal (note: include Lemon Pepper).

A fantastic colleague, cook, friend, mentor - our world is a much more rich, better-dressed, and tastier place with you in it, Ezio. I think I can speak for so many of us when I say “grazie mille” for your loyalty, professionalism, dedication to your craft, to our family business and your community.

You are, and will always be, a part of the family. We look forward to celebrating with you (the real way), very soon.
