76 years and counting. Am Israel Chai!
Thousands of us gathered today on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to express our support for Israel and the Jewish people. There were Jews and non-Jews. The Jewish community of Canada was represented by all its components. Orthodox and liberal. Sephardim and Ashkenazim. English and French speaking. Those who carried the blue and white Israeli flag, and those who carried the flag with the LGBTQ+ colours with the Magen David (the Star of David). There was also, to show the great, and sometimes particular, diversity of the Jewish people, a very small group of four or five ultra-Orthodox anti-Zionists with a Palestinian flag and with anti-Israel signs (this small group was behind barriers; people observed them with some curiosity and surprise). But that's how the Jewish people are outside and inside Israel. Two Jews, three opinions. I also saw banners from Christian groups that support the Jewish state, another from someone who is probably originally from Nigeria, denouncing Hamas for being the equivalent of the Boko Haram terrorist organization. I saw a woman with the flag of the Lion with the sword and the Sun that symbolizes ancient Persia, and one Ukrainian flag. We were all united denouncing the barbarism of Hamas and the other jihadist groups on October 7, demanding the release of all the hostages kidnapped, and wishing that Israel and the Jews in Canada and in the world could live in peace, without the threat of being attacked. In everyone's mouths was the call: Am Israel Chai.
Reminder: today, 1:30 pm, on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. NOW is the time to raise our voice. Join us as we unite and rally in our nation’s capital. For the hostages. For the people of Israel. For the safety of Jewish Canadians.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YAMIM NORAIM SERVICES AND HONOURS
Dear members and friends of the Sephardi Association,
This year the SAO is introducing a system to offer some of the synagogue honours in advance at a set price. The Mizmor Shel HaParnassa honour is available on six occasions during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. In the Sephardi tradition, this special prayer for one's parnassa (financial livelihood) is said during the high holidays and it is considered a great honour for one to secure one of these opportunities and donate to the community. If you are interested in one of these six honours please email the SAO immediately to secure it with your donation (see details below):
Mizmor shel Haparnassa – Rosh Hashanah first evening service: $180
Mizmor shel Haparnassa – Rosh Hashanah first day service: $180
Mizmor shel Haparnassa – Rosh Hashanah second day service: $180
Mizmor shel Haparnassa – Yom Kippur evening service: $180
Mizmor shel Haparnassa – Yom Kippur morning service: $180
Mizmor shel Haparnassa – Yom Kippur Neila service: $180
If you want to secure in advance Aliyot Sefer Tora (Israel) during Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services, we suggest a donation of $54 for aliya.
Other honours such as opening of the Aron HaKodesh and holding the Tora during Kol Nidre, and opening of the Arch during Neila will be auctioned during the services.
There is no charge to attend the Sephardi Association of Ottawa services. All are welcome to join us. We appreciate your donations to keep offering every year the only Sephardi Yamim Noraim services in Ottawa.
You can make your donations and secure honours for you or your dear ones by making an e-transfer to [email protected] or sending your cheque to Sephardi Association of Ottawa, 3781 Strandherd Drive, P.O.Box 34032. Nepean, ON K2J 5B1.
