Did you know that there are different levels of care when it comes to ED treatment?

Yup! The different levels of care exist to support folks in their recovery no matter where they are at.

Here is a quick overview:

1️⃣ Self Guided.

This is the lowest level of support and is often not enough to support full recovery. This typically involves free community groups, books, peer support, etc.

2️⃣Community/Outpatient.

This is best suited for patients who are medically stable and do not require daily monitor who can function in society and actively participate in their recovery.

This typically involves one on one support with a dietitian and/or therapist.

💜We offer this at TBP

3️⃣Comprehensive Outpatient.

This is best suited for patients who are also medically stable however require more support than just 1:1. It is also ideal as a step-down from higher levels of care. This is often a more structure approach with added support!

💜At TBP, we offer this level of support with the Eating Disorder Recovery Program™️.

4️⃣Outpatient Hospital/Partial hospital.

This level is best suited for those whose eating disorders and psychological symptoms impair daily functioning. Patients who require daily monitoring and physiological and mental status are supported with more hands on help.

5️⃣Residential.

Residential care is catered to those who have not responded to either outpatient or partial hospitalization treatments and require further support. Those requiring these services must be medically stable however psychological factors may be impairing full recovery. This option requires the person to stay at the residence for a predetermined period of time.

How can you be an ally for folks in the LGBTQIA2S+ community with eating disorders? 🤔

Even if you don’t belong to the LGBTQIA2S+ community, there are ways you can help support this community as an ally.

Such as:
💜 Educating Yourself: Being an ally starts with awareness. Research and learn more about the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Learn and understand the unique challenges faced by those in the LGBTQIA2S+ community, including discrimination, stigmas, and mental health issues such as eating disorders. There are many great organizations that aim to support and increase awareness.

💛 Raising Awareness: Advocate for inclusive policies and practices in schools, workplaces, and healthcare settings. Bring awareness to the community about the intersection of eating disorders and LGBTQIA2S+ identities by connecting with others and sharing information through social media, community events, and discussions.

💚 Creating an Inclusive Space: Use inclusive language by respecting and using individuals’ preferred names and pronouns. Be open-minded by creating a judgment-free and supportive environment where everyone feels safe and valued. Promote inclusive environments by increasing access to gender-affirming care for transgender and non-binary youth and adhering to anti-discrimination policies.

💙 Self-Reflection: Examine your own biases and commit to ongoing learning. Reflect on your attitudes towards LGBTQIA2S+ individuals and work on challenging and changing your own beliefs and biases.

It is important to remember that for people outside of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, being an ally is a choice.

Happy Pride 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️✨

This month we will post content weekly regarding the intersection of eating disorders and the LGBTQ2S+ community. Stay tuned to learn more!

We know it’s easier said than done to let go of the idea we must be “sick enough” to deserve help.

We get it.

Your ED may try to convince you that:
😔 It’s not that bad
😖 You are not “that” sick
😫 You don’t deserve help

We call BS.

If your relationship with food and your body is impacting your quality of life.

YOU DESERVE SUPPORT.

Meet Marie-Pier

Marie-Pier always had a passion to teach and help others. She started her journey in psychology, graduating with B.Sc. Psychology and continued her studies in nutrition to become a Registered Dietitian.

Her interest to help others heal their relationship with food and their bodies came from her own struggles. After graduating from her first bachelor's, Marie-Pier develop an eating disorder. She is no stranger to fearing foods, feeling out of control and hating her body. After battling her ED for several years, Marie-Pier recovered and found her new passion... help others heal their relationship with food and their bodies, so they too can start living freely.

During recovery journey, Marie-Pier found that there was a huge gap between nutrition counselling and psychology.

Marie-Pier started her private practice to fill this gap. Since then, Marie-Pier has helped hundreds of women give up dieting and finally make peace with food and their bodies.
