Our family business, along with countless others across the Nation, is struggling. Economic conditions have worsened for families as they make every effort to meet their basic needs, leaving little to no income left for anything but the bare essentials. In an effort to survive the economic downturn this winter, and after four years of nationwide financial uncertainty, we have had to lay off almost all of our staff. Our family members will continue to operate the business throughout the winter in the hopes that spring will present new opportunities and a stronger economy, allowing us to welcome our team back.

Countless other small and medium sized businesses across Canada face similar uncertainty. It’s up to our communities to support our locally owned, neighbourhood shops, without whom our neighbourhoods, as we know them, will disappear, replaced with big-box chains.

There are those in our communities who have already dedicated themselves to online hatred and shaming. There is no shame in working hard. And hatred and shame have no place in a just and civilized society.

We are immensely grateful to the community’s continued support and compassion. We will be closed between Christmas and New Years after which our family will continue to serve you and your families with great honour.

Angelina Wrona is an artist, designer, and entrepreneur who has exhibited her work in galleries throughout the world. She broke into the internationa art scene by way of an intimate gallery show in Los Angeles, which quickly turned into a two-year tour of North America.

Perched in the nebulous space between dreamscape and reality, Angelina's paintings are mysterious and haunting. They showcase the edgy, the twisted, the wounded, but her subjects aren't victims; they have taken fate into their own hands. From the angelic to the demonic, Angelina's subjects will captivate you.

Over the past 10 years, Angelina's paintings have earned international recognition by collectors and diehard loyalty from fans. She built a modern Renaissance Woman career one passion at a time. Angelina is based in Merrickville, Canada.

Celebrate La Dolce Vita with Stella Luna Gelato this weekend at Italian Fest. We’ll be at the corner of Preston & Aberdeen Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

It’s the annual Italian Festival this week celebrating all things Italian. Stella Luna is on the corner of Preston and Aberdeen with all your favourite flavours on Sunday June 11 and again from June 16-18. Join us for a week of La Dolce Vita in Ottawa.

We are HIRING! We have one position available on our CULINARY TEAM as a Gelato Production Assistant at our Commercial Kitchen in Ottawa.

Successful Candidates will have:
- a minimum of one-year restaurant kitchen experience or equivalent
- the ability to precisely follow recipes and maintain high standards of food presentation
- the ability to stay organized and maintain cleanliness standards in a fast paced, high-volume environment
- the ability to work independently as well as in a team setting,
- be availability to work early mornings/weekends

The starting pay is $17:50 - $20.00 per hour, depending on the level of experience in addition to anywhere between $1 to $3 per hour in a shared tip pool. We offer an Employee Extended Health and Dental program for full-time permanent team members.

Stella Luna Statement: April 17th, 2023

Stella Luna has been made aware of the allegations that have been circulated on social media concerning Stella Luna Wellington West location’s legal dispute. Stella Luna would like to address these statements as we believe some important information has been omitted from the online discourse and is necessary for us to address in order to provide a more complete picture of the rather complex situation Stella Luna and Sharpfle Waffle now find themselves in.

When Stella Luna entered into a lease agreement with the landlord of the 1130 Wellington St West plaza, as small business owners would, we took the precaution of including exclusivity terms in our Lease Agreement to ensure the long-term viability of Stella Luna at the Wellington Street West location prior to entering into the lease. Around December 2021, Stella Luna was surprised to find out that a "restaurant or café-like business", Sharpfle Waffle, was operating from a unit of the 1130 Wellington Street West Plaza. Stella Luna was never consulted or provided notice by our landlord that another "restaurant or café-like business" had been allowed to rent a Unit in the Plaza. It was, and remains, our position that allowing Sharple Waffle to operate out of the same premises was a breach of our Lease Agreement by the landlord.

It is uncertain if Sharpfle Waffle was made aware of Stella Luna’s exclusivity rights prior to entering into its lease agreement. We want it to be clear that Stella Luna has no ill intent towards Sharpfle Waffle, as small business owners ourselves, we sympathize with its predicament as a result of what we perceive to be a breach of our lease Agreement by our Landlord. Unfortunately, we were unable to come to an agreement with our Landlord and as such, were left without any other options but to turn to legal action to enforce our contractual rights against our landlord.

As is the case for most restaurant-like businesses, the COVID-19 Pandemic caused some serious strains on Stella Luna’s long-term viability. As a result of the ongoing legal actions with the Landlord, we will not go into too many details but wanted to say that after managing to survive the numerous challenges brought on by the Pandemic, we were disappointed in the landlord’s actions. We would like to clarify that our issues are solely with our Landlord. We were advised that as we were bringing an Application to enforce the terms of the Lease Agreement and that it could very well impact Sharpfle Waffle rights; by including Sharpfle Waffle in the proceedings would allow Sharpfle Waffle the opportunity to make submissions with regard to the situation as its right would be directly impacted.

We truly hope that we have managed to shed some light on the events and the unfortunate reason as to why Sharpfle Waffle became a party to the legal proceedings.
