On 6 November, in celebration of the upcoming 106th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, Ambassador Kaspars Ozoliņš hosted a reception at the City Hall Art Gallery. Members of the Canada-Latvia Parliamentary Friendship Group as well as the government and NGO representatives were present.
The guests had a unique opportunity to enjoy the tapestry works of prominent Latvian artist Egils Rozenbergs' who's solo exhibition SIGNS OF THE TIME is available to public at the City Hall Art Gallery / Galerie d’art de l’hôtel de ville until 24 November 2024.

On October 30-31st, Lauma Paegļkalna, Parliamentary Secretary of the 🇱🇻 Ministry of Justice, participated in the Ministerial Conference on the Human Dimension of Ukraine's Peace Formula. The Conference, jointly organized by Canada, Ukraine and Norway, took place in Montreal, Quebec and was attended by more than 70 countries and international organisations.
In her intervention Lauma Paegļkalna stressed the need for the international community to stand united against Russia's agression to ensure safe return of 🇺🇦 prisoners of war, illegally detained civilians and unlawfully deported and forcibly transferred children.

Suminām Latvijas Nacionālo bruņoto spēku Zemessardzes orķestris / Latvian National Guard Orchestra mūziķus ar viesošanos Kvebekā, Kanādā, dalībai piemiņas dienas koncertā 24. oktobrī.
Pie kanādiešu orķestra kā viesdiriģents uzstāsies NBS galvenais diriģents un Zemessardzes orķestra priekšnieks majors Andis Karelis, Zemessardzes orķestra mūziķis trompetists Jānis Porietis priecēs ar solo latviešu komponistes Ilzes Arnes kompozīcijai “Koncertmūzika trompetei ar orķestri”. Koncerta noslēgumā izskanēs Zemessardzes orķestra mūziķes un komponistes Ingas Meijeres kompozīcija “Skanēj’ visi novadiņi”, kas ir veltījums Latvijas novadu daudzveidībai.

During the visit to Halifax Ambassador also had a chance to engage with Minister of Economic Development Susan Corkum-Greek; to visit CFB Halifax, tour newest Arctic Offshore Patrol Vessel and to exchange views with Rear-Admiral Josée Kurtz, Commander, Maritime Forces Atlantic; to discuss business and investment opportunities with representatives of construction, wind energy and investor community, and to acquaint with COVE maritime technology accelerator in Dartmouth.
Ambassador Kaspars Ozoliņš spoke to audience of well attended public presentation on Security Developments in Europe and Russia’s War Against Ukraine on 12 October in Halifax. Thanks to Dr. Ruben Zaoitti for moderating lively and engaging Q&A session. And big thanks to Jean Monnet European Union Centre of Excellence, Dalhousie University and Halifax chapter of Canadian International Council for hosting the event!
It was an honor to meet Hon. Arthur LeBlanc, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia and to discuss connections between Latvia and Canada. Lieutenant Governor was fascinated to learn that the post II WW Latvian refugees founded the following culture institutions in Halifax:
- Nova Scotia Opera Association - first full-time opera in Canada;
- Halifax Symphonette which became Halifax Symphony Orchestra;
- Halifax Conservatory School of Ballet.
Aforesaid facts can be found in the latest book by Latvian author Viesturs Zariņš “Nova Scotia Latvian Connections” which was presented to Hon. Arthur LeBlanc.

On 3 October, Dr. Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga, former President of Latvia (1999-2007), received the Order of Canada (in a form of a snowflake), honouring her contribution to the strengthening of Canada-Latvia relations.
During the Investiture Ceremony at the Rideu Hall, the Right Honourable Mary Simon, addressed the Order of Canada appointees: "The snowflake insignia that you are about to receive is a symbol of the uniqueness of your accomplishments – as no two snowflakes are alike. It also represents Canada’s unity in diversity".
