May I be the tiniest nail in the house of the universe, tiny but useful.
Someone said those words in an online meeting the other day and attributed them to the poet Mary Oliver. When I looked them up, I found this and it made my heart stop for a moment.
"Sometimes the desire to be lost again, as long ago, comes over me like a v***r. With growth into adulthood, responsibilities claimed me, so many heavy coats. I didn't choose them, I don't fault them, but it took time to reject them. Now in the spring I kneel, I put my face into the packets of violets, the dampness, the freshness, the sense of ever-ness. Something is wrong, I know it, if I don't keep my attention on eternity. May I be the tiniest nail in the house of the universe, tiny but useful. May I stay forever upstream. May I look down upon the windflower and the bull thistle and the coreopsis with the greatest respect."

“Art can create new neuropathways in the brain because this happens through sensorial experience. With high visual stimulation, if we see a lot of art or make a lot of art, we are growing — dramatically — parts of our brain,” she added. “And it’s never too late to create an enriched environment, whether as the maker or the beholder in any art form.”
“And because research indicates that makers need not be proficient at their art or craft, more people are encouraged to try their hobbyist hands at painting, sculpture, and other arts and crafts.”
Neuroaesthetics: How Art is Scientifically Proven to Help Brain Health | Art & Object Research shows that art is not just a fundamental aspect of our humanity, but also essential to our well-being.

Clay is such a beautiful medium. It is also a challenging medium. Here are a few things we think you need if you want to be successful with clay. Of course if you don’t have some of these things now - it’s never too late to acquire them. Maybe working with clay can help….
1. Patience
2. Commitment
3. Humility
4. Resilience
5. Determination
6. Problem solving skills
7. Kindness (with the clay & yourself)
Do you work with clay? Can you add to our list?
I am taking a break this summer, a reflective hibernation. My socials will be fairly quiet. Maybe you can take a few hours, days, weeks, or months for yours…you deserve it.

We tend to use a fair amount of glue in the weekly Open Studio at the McMillan Art Centre and so I thought it would be nice to have a recipe that is environmentally friendly, you could eat it or compost it! So I did a little research and here it is!
I agree!
