THREE TEENAGERS AND ONE SENIOR ALL CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING IVER THE WEEKEND

Impaired Arrest

A 17-year-old Peterborough male is facing a number of charges after an incident early Sunday morning.

At approximately 3:20am on August 18, 2024, officers were called to area of Penrose Avenue and Sherbrooke Street after a report that a vehicle had struck a parked vehicle and then drove away. Upon arrival officers located two vehicles with extensive damage and a license plate that did not belong to either vehicle. Officers attended the residence attached to the plate and located a vehicle with front end damage. They further learned that the vehicle had been taken without permission and that the driver was not licensed. While officers were speaking to the driver, they also noticed signs of impairment.

As a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old Peterborough male was arrested and charged with:

Operation while impaired - alcohol
Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent
Failure to comply with undertaking
Drive motor vehicle - no licence (Highway Traffic Act)
Fail to remain (Highway Traffic Act)
The accused is currently bound by an undertaking with the following conditions: to remain in your residence between 9:00pm and 6:00am.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on November 25, 2024.



Impaired/Stunt Driving Arrest

Two teens are facing charges after an incident early Saturday morning.

At approximately 2:50am on August 17, 2024, an officer on general patrol in the Chemong Road and Bellevue St area noticed a vehicle travelling at a high-rate speed southbound on Chemong Road. The vehicle then failed to stop for two red lights and the officer conducted a traffic stop. As the officer was making the stop they saw the driver and passenger switch places. Upon speaking to the males in the vehicle signs of impairment were observed with both.

As a result of the investigation:

A 17-year-old Peterborough male (original driver) was arrested and charged with:

Operation while impaired – alcohol
Operation while impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80plus)
Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt
The accused was issued a 90-day license suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment for stunt driving.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on October 28, 2024.

An 18-year-old Peterborough male (secondary driver) was arrested and charged with:

Operation While Impaired – Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was released on an appearance notice and will appear in court on October 10, 2024.



Impaired Arrest

A 76-year-old Peterborough man is facing an impaired charged after an incident Friday morning.

At approximately 11:30am on August 16, 2024, a concerned resident called 9-1-1 about a possible impaired driver after a vehicle struck a light post in a parking lot and then left the area. Officers were able to locate the vehicle which was being driven at a very slow pace and swerving in the lane in the Lansdowne Street West and Kawartha Heights Boulevard area. They conducted a traffic stop and noticed signs of impairment with the driver.

As a result of the investigation, a 76-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court October 1, 2024.

CONCERNED MEMBER OF PUBLIC REPORTS IMPAIRED DRIVER

Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired operation.

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 3:10 a.m., a concerned member of the public reported an unresponsive driver in a vehicle on the side of County Road 25 in the Township of Cramahe.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and OPP responded to the report in which the caller advised the vehicle was still running. Police arrived on the scene where the lone occupant was conscious and being assessed by paramedics as a precaution.

Following speaking with the driver, an officer made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath. As a result, the individual was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing.

Roger LITTLE, 36-years-old, from Peterborough, has been charged with:

- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs

- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. Their licence was suspended for 90-days and vehicle impounded for seven.

POLICE RIDE LEADS TO DRUG CHARGES

Members of the Bancroft Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid drug charges after a vehicle was stopped in a RIDE program in the Town of Bancroft.

On August 10, 2024, shortly after 12:30 AM, officers stopped a vehicle during a RIDE program in the Town of Bancroft. As a result of the investigation, 46-year-old Jason BARTLEY, 41-year-old Martha ANDERSON and 43-year-old Jennifer SCHEMBRI, all from Peterborough, were arrested and charged with the criminal offence of:
•possession of Schedule 1 - co***ne; and
•possession of Schedule 1 - Opioid.

They were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bancroft on September 17th, 2024.

One person is facing impaired driving charges following a single vehicle collision early this morning.

Kawartha Lakes Police say 1:20 a.m. they received a call about a collision.

Upon arrival police learned that a vehicle had struck another vehicle parked on a street in Lindsay.

Further investigation revealed that the 48-year-old driver from Lindsay was impaired.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with the following offences Operation while Impaired – alcohol and drugs, Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), he also received a 90 -day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 7-days.

The man will appear in court at a later date.

ALPR NOTIFICATION LEADS TO IMPAIRED CHARGE



(CAVAN-MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) - Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired driving after a traffic stop.

On Friday July 12, 2024, at approximately 3:00pm, an officer from the Peterborough County OPP detachment conducted a traffic stop on County Road 28 after being alerted by the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) in their cruiser. The officer approached the driver and made a demand for the Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver complied with the demand and provided a sample of their breath resulting in a Fail at which point they were arrested.

Nathaniel KANE (age 32) of Peterborough, ON, was arrested and charged with:

· Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their drivers licence suspended for 90-days and their vehicle impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on August 27, 2024.

Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a person with impaired operation.

On July 9, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch in the vicinity of Rolling Banks Road and Robins Road in Alnwick-Haldimand Township.

Officers arrived and began an investigation into the cause of the collision and subsequently arrested the driver. The individual was transported to a local detachment for further testing. There were no injuries reported.

Graham HALSEY, 64-years-old, from Oshawa, has been charged with:
•Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
•Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
•Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis in open baggage.

A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date.

SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES

A single vehicle collision in Stirling-Rawdon has resulted in impaired driving charges.

Officers with the Central Hastings Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The Stirling-Rawdon Fire Department and Hastings-Quinte Paramedics responded to the crash near the intersection of Bronson Rapids and Bateman Roads just after 10:00 p.m. on July 5, 2024.

A pick-up truck had left the road and struck a tree.

First responders located a female passenger at the scene who was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The male driver had fled in the vehicle but was arrested in the area following a foot-pursuit. The male was transported to the detachment for testing.

As a result, Christopher CHILDS, age 23 of Centre Hastings was charged with:
•Operation while impaired - alcohol
•Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
•Fail to comply with a probation order

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 25, 2024.

A 24-year-old Oshawa man is facing charges after an incident early Saturday morning.

At approximately 6:00am on July 6, 2024, officers were called to the area of Dranoel Road and Syer Line about a vehicle in the ditch near the train tracks. Upon arrival, officers determined there had been four people in the vehicle and in speaking with driver observed signs of impairment.

As a result, a 24-year-old Oshawa man was arrested and charged with:
•Operation while impaired - alcohol
The accused was issued an automatic •90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court August 20, 2024.

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Four drivers have been arrested as a result of separate investigations over the weekend in Northumberland.

On May 10, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of an impaired driver at a location on Dundas Street in Brighton. Police located the vehicle and upon speaking with the driver, entered into an impaired operation investigation. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made. As a result, the driver was arrested and transported to a detachment for further testing.

A 17-year-old, from Trenton, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The identity of accused is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

On May 10, 2024, at approximately 3:50 p.m., police were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 eastbound in the Municipality of Port Hope when a vehicle was stopped for speeding. A breath sample into an ASD was demanded. As a result, the driver was arrested for impaired operation and transported to a detachment where further tests were conducted.

A 39-year-old, from Port Hope, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Speeding – 1-49 km/h over posted limit.

On May 12, 2024, at approximately 5:00 a.m., officers were on patrol on County Road 25, in the Township of Cramahe when they observed a vehicle in a ditch. Upon speaking with the driver, police entered into an impaired operation investigation.

A 24-year-old, from Baltimore, was arrested and charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Having liquor in open container in unauthorised place
- Fail to surrender insurance card.

On May 12, 2024, at approximately 10:10 p.m., police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on County Road 45 in the Municipality of Trent Hills. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Municipality of Trent Hills Fire Department also attended the scene. Officers arrived and observed a vehicle in the ditch. The driver had what can be described as minor injuries. The investigation led officers to arrest for impaired operation and the driver was transported to a detachment where tests were performed by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE).

A 27-year-old, from Hastings, has been charged with;
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

A 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute on each of the accused.

Each individual is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

VEHICLE IN DITCH RESULTS IN IMPAIRED CHARGE

Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended a single vehicle collision that led to the driver being charged with impaired.

On May 11, 2024, just prior to 1:30am, Peterborough County OPP received a report of a vehicle that had gone into the ditch on Highway 7 near the 11th Line of Asphodel. Officers arrived to find an individual next to the vehicle who identified as the driver. The driver was travelling on Highway 7 when they attempted to turn at the 11th Line where they left the road landing in the ditch. While speaking with the driver, officers noted signs of impairment and an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was read. The driver provided a sample of their breath resulting in a 'FAIL' at which point they were arrested.

Andrew MCNEIL (age 29) of Norwood, ON, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused had their driver's licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.

FIVE DRIVERS ARRESTED OVER THREE DAY PERIOD FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING, WHY AREN’T PEOPLE GETTING THE MESSAGE?

DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!

The Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have made five separate arrests related to impaired driving over a three-day period.

On April 12, 2024, just after 5:00pm, a Peterborough County OPP officer conducted a traffic stop on County Road 45 in the Township of Asphodel-Norwood for a Highway Traffic Act infraction. The officer approached the vehicle and began speaking with the driver. While speaking with the driver, the officer read the driver the Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand, the driver provided a sample of their breath and as a result was arrested.

Eric CHARBONNEAU (age 42) of Warkworth, ON, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver's licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on May 14, 2024.

On April 12, 2024, at approximately 10:30pm, the Peterborough County OPP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle in the ditch that was reported on Fallis Line in Selwyn Township. The vehicle left the roadway driving across the front lawn of a residence, narrowly missing striking the house. The driver made attempts to drive off the lawn only to create deep ruts and getting the vehicle stuck in the ditch. The driver, realizing that the vehicle was now stuck, fled the scene prior to police arrival. Officers arrived on scene and after patrolling the area, located the driver walking a short distance away. While officers spoke with the driver, an odour of alcohol was detected as well as signs of impairment. As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested.

Andy VARDON-ELEMENT (age 28) of Peterborough, ON, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired - alcohol
· Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver's licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on June 4, 2024.

On April 13, 2024, just shortly after 3:30pm, Peterborough County OPP officers were called to a business in Havelock after a bystander observed a vehicle that had struck the building while attempting to park. The driver was located unconscious in the vehicle. Police, Fire and EMS were dispatched to the location to ensure the well-being of the driver. Officers arrived on scene and quickly observed signs of impairment as well as an odour of alcohol coming from the breath of the driver. The driver was transported to hospital to attend to some minor injuries and was arrested.

Debra LEVERE (age 64) of Havelock, ON, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired - alcohol
· Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver's licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on May 14, 2024.

On April 14, 2024, just after 2:30am, Peterborough County OPP officers received a call in relation to a single motor vehicle collision that occurred on County Road 8 in Douro-Dummer Township. A passerby advised that they had seen the damaged vehicle and approached it only to find the driver unconscious behind the wheel. It was at that point they call 911. Peterborough County OPP officers arrived at scene to find a heavily damaged vehicle that had gone off the road possibly flipping multiple times prior to coming to a stop on all four wheels. Officers spoke to the now conscious driver and quickly observed signs of impairment as well as an odour of alcohol coming from the breath of the driver. As a result of their investigation, the driver was arrested.

Dawson ENGLISH (age 20) of Asphodel-Norwood, ON, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired - alcohol
· Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Having Care or Control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor
· Novice Driver - B.A.C. above zero
· Possess more than one licence

The accused had their driver's licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on June 4, 2024.

On April 14, 2024, just prior to 8:00pm, Peterborough County OPP officers conducted a traffic stop on Poplar Plains Drive in the Cavan-Monaghan Township. Upon speaking with the driver officers detected possible signs of impairment. Officers read the driver the Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand, the driver provided a sample of their breath and as a result was arrested.

Eric SORENSEN (age 35) of Cavan-Monaghan Township, ON, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver's licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on May 21, 2024.

IMPAIRED DRIVER ARRESTED AT A RIDE CHECK

On April 11, 2024, at approximately 00:41 a.m., officers conduced a traffic stop on a motor vehicle on Highway 35 at Highway 7 after almost causing a head on collision while approaching the RIDE program. Through investigation the driver was arrested for impaired driving offences and several Highway Traffic Act offences.

Courtney BRAY, 30-year-old of Lindsay, was charged with:
•Operation While Impaired Blood •Alcohol Concentration over 80
•Operation while Impaired
•Operator Motor Vehicle without Insurance
•Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available
•Drive Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available
•Unsafe Move - lane or shoulder

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date. The motor vehicle was towed and impounded for 7 days.

DRIVER ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED DRIVING AFTER NOVEMBER COLLISION

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON) - Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) closed Hwy 35 for a serious collision involving a pickup truck and passenger vehicle.

On November 05, 2023 at approximately 3:05 pm, officers responded, alongside with Kawartha Lakes Fire and EMS, to a motor vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and passenger vehicle.

Four patients were sent to Toronto Hospitals for treatment, one of which was airlifted.

The highway was closed from Powells Road to Country Lane Road for approximately 7 hours for the duration of an investigation with the OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Reconstructionists.

On April 04, 2024 the driver and single occupant of the pick-up truck was arrested and charged with additional charges related to the investigation.

DRIVER STOPPED FOR SPEEDING CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

(DOURO-DUMMER TOWNSHIP, ON) - A driver has been charged with Impaired driving after their vehicle was stopped for speeding on Highway 28.

On March 24, 2024, at approximately 7:00pm, the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 28 in Douro-Dummer Township. While dealing with the driver, the officer detected an odour of alcohol and made an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand. The driver provided a sample of his breath and as a result was arrested.
James WILKINSON (age 30) of Selwyn Township, ON, was arrested and charged with:
· Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused had their driver's licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on April 30, 2024.

A 43-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 3:45pm on March 20, 2024, emergency crews were called to the area of Armour Road and Hunter Street East after several reports of a man possibly VSA in a vehicle in the drivers seat while in the middle of the road. When officers arrived on scene, firefighters and paramedics were able to gain access to the vehicle and paramedics had the driver under assessment. Through further discussion with the driver signs of impairment were observed. It was also learned that the driver was currently bound by two separate driving suspensions.

As a result, a 43-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
•Operation while impaired – drugs
•Drive while suspended X2 (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court April 9, 2024.

SUSPECTED IMPAIRED DRIVER CRASHES INTO HOUSE!

One person has been charged after a police investigation into a single vehicle collision.

On February 17, 2024, at approximately 12:45 a.m., members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a passenger vehicle which had collided into a residence on Front Street North in Campbellford.

Officers arrived on the scene and there were no injuries reported. Following speaking with the driver, police were led into an impaired operation investigation. As a result, the accused was arrested and transported to a detachment for further testing. During the course of the investigation, it transpired that the person did not have permission to take the vehicle.

David QUACKENBUSH, 36-years-old, from Peterborough, has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
· Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Operation while prohibited
· Take motor vehicle without consent
· Careless Driving
· Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero
· Class G1 licence holder - unaccompanied by qualified driver
· Class G1 licence holder - drive at unlawful hour.

A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 45-day vehicle impound was initiated.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

The Peterborough Police Service conducted a RIDE program on Sunday evening.

Officers were out in four location between 5:00pm and 11:00pm on February 11, 2024. In all, 650 vehicles were stopped with 41 ASD tests administered. There were no violations reported.

The RIDE program is conducted at all times of the year.

A 36-year-old Peterborough man is facing impaired charges after an incident Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 4:00pm on January 27, 2024, officers received a call about a possible impaired driver after a vehicle was spotted hitting several curbs in the Parkhill Road and Chandler Crescent area. Upon arrival a vehicle matching the description given to police was located in the walking trail parking lot in the Parkhill Road and Ravenwood Drive area. Officers conducted a traffic stop and noticed signs of impairment with the driver. It was further learned that the vehicle had been taken without consent of the owner. The driver was taken into custody without incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:
•Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent
•Operation while impaired - alcohol
•Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court February 13, 2024.

OPP ARREST FOR IMPAIRED WHILE PATROLLING HIGHWAY 401

An individual is facing several charges as a result of an impaired driving occurrence.

On January 20, 2024 at approximately 2:30 a.m., an officer from Northumberland OPP was on patrol on the eastbound 401 when a vehicle was observed unable to maintain its lane. A traffic stop was conducted, and the officer was led into an impaired driving investigation. The driver was arrested and transported to a detachment for further testing.

A 35-year-old driver from Brighton, has been charged with the following:
• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
• Driving motor vehicle wit liquor readily available
• Driver fail to surrender licence.

A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.

The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it. ^jc
