Rainbow Youth
Rainbow Youth Program as facilitated by PARN
A place for q***r and trans youth to get information about events in the community, to share and meet others, and to receive updates from the Rainbow Youth Program in Peterborough, Ontario.
If you are trans, 14 yrs or older, and living in Canada, please consider filling out the Trans Pulse survey here: http://bit.ly/2MeAirc! There is an option to fill out a short (10min) or long (70min) form.
By filling out this survey, you'd be helping other two-spirit/trans/non-binary people in the future!
We’re proud to announce the official launch of the Trans PULSE Canada survey!
Survey data collection is taking place now, and you can find the survey here http://bit.ly/2MeAirc. To participate, you must be aged 14 or older, live in Canada, and have a gender identity that differs from the s*x you were assigned at birth. You don’t have to identify personally as transgender, trans, or non-binary, you don’t have to be living day-to-day in your true gender, and you don’t have to be taking hormones.
Trans PULSE Canada is designed as a research survey and voluntary community census. It’s for everyone, and there is even a 10-minute short form if you can’t complete the whole 70-minute survey. The project also has nine priority populations, groups within trans and non-binary communities for which we either have very little information or have specific policy-related information needs. So, if you are a member of one of these groups—non-binary, living with a disability, Indigenous, rural, s*x worker, racialized, immigrant, youth, or older—you may notice some questions specific to these groups, and we have some separate analysis and reports planned.
You can get answers to your questions in our FAQ section (http://bit.ly/2Ywwkke) or you can e-mail us at [email protected] * or call us toll-free at 1-844-972-6772.
*Please note that email is not secure. Emails can be intercepted, viewed, changed or saved by others. Only send information to this address that you do not feel is sensitive.
We love ! Especially when we use each day to learn about a rad LGBTQ+ ancestor.
We're so grateful for all the good works of Dr. Pauli Murray that we benefit from today. Speaking of which, have you read her poems?! Here's a bit from Dark Testament (1970):
"Hope is a song in a weary throat.
Give me a song of hope
And a world where I can sing it.
Give me a song of faith
And a people to believe in it.
Give me a song of kindliness
And a country where I can live it.
Give me a song of hope and love
And a brown girl’s heart to hear it."
People of Pride Volume II, #2
Dr. Pauli Murray is unequivocally one of the most interesting individuals I've had the honor of researching and portraying so far, and I encourage everyone to go read about her countless achievements in the areas of literature, activism, and law.

World Health Organization removes transgender from list of mental disorders
Being trans is not an illness to be cured, a problem to be fixed, or a difference to be shamed.
Once society (and healthcare systems) can get over understanding that trans people exist and transness is not a mental illness, then we can begin the important work of supporting trans people in navigating a world of economic, social, physical, and emotional barriers.
gaystarnews.com Trans advocates have campaigned for years to change the perception that gender dysphoria is a mental illness and the World Health Organization has listened

"My brain might be constantly telling me something, and then the world around me seems to agree."
Today is the start of .
As q***r folks, we know that mental illness is so much worse when we are facing discrimination and exclusion because of who we are. Feeling othered and alone feeds our mental illness.
So for Mental Health Week, we challenge you to reach out to a q***r/trans youth and tell them how much you value, support, appreciate, and care about them. We challenge ourselves to talk and listen about mental health in our communities, especially for those who are marginalized in other ways too.
