is about acceptance, equality, and celebrating the work of 2SLGBTQIA+ people, education, history, and raising awareness of issues affecting community members! 🏳️🌈
In honour of this important time, Nadia Salvatori, Communications Specialist – Design at MPAC, shares how organizations and colleagues can support employees who identify as 2SLGBTQIA+ so that they can feel comfortable speaking about their identity in the workplace.
“I believe that supporting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community doesn't have to be perfect. Sometimes, showing respectful curiosity and asking questions about the things we don't fully understand is where change begins. It's not always easy to unlearn old biases, and it’s okay if sometimes you get it wrong, but it means so much when someone is willing to continue trying to be more inclusive.”
Nadia also opened up about what Pride Month means to her.
“My partner Ashleigh and I visited the Stonewall Inn in New York City, the original site of where the 1969 riots that sparked the gay rights movement took place. We spent some time sitting in the park across from the inn, trying to imagine what life was like back then for those in our community. For me, Pride is a time to remember the brave individuals who fought for our rights so that Ashleigh and I can live our lives openly and together. I know that every time we hold hands in public or safely travel somewhere new, it’s solely because of the people who stood up in the moments when they weren’t safe or welcome.”
We look forward to our ongoing celebrations at MPAC and are committed to fostering a culture of understanding, respect and opportunity every day, ensuring every voice is valued and heard.
